I thought I could save some frustration for folks heading out for the opener for the Bulls. The water district is puting in a new water main and have the usual path to the lake pretty much blocked. There is some remedial signage if you look for it to direct you to the lake but most guys are on auto pilot at o dark thirty so here ya go...... if you are traveling from the south off 97 follow the Culver highway thru Culver to Gem Lane turn left on Gem and head west toward the lake , go thru the 4 way stop and follow it to the lake from there. Good luck, be safe and handle those big ones with care if you are taking pictures and for Petes sake dont forget your Indian permits. TKK

Watch here for further updates, I am not sure if they are turning up gem or continuing up feather, but they will be making that jump today or tomorrow so you might be better served to run the gravel down feather on your more normal route to LBC.
thanks for that KD, I was told the the entire entrance was blocked and there would be no entry to the lake thru May 1st, perhaps sooner and there would be a public announcment if so.

I hadn't heard anything about a total blockage, and with the amount of traffic and number of people that live down there I don't think that will happen. Last night the Track hoe was sitting on the corner of Gem and Feather so if I were going today, I would use the feather from the south (off Jericho, Iris or "C" Street) to get to the lake. Monday I was able to use the cutoff to the lake to go around the workers on Fisch, Fraizer and Gem. I will try to include a map for reference, I put an "X" on the map where the track hoe was last night.

Thanks Doc. You get alot better look at it than I do in the morning. I am only seeing a small portion of the big picture. During the weekend of the opener Gem was your only route. I drove all the way down Feather today from the shop heading North and it was open to the lake. I fear that is a day to day deal though. Good thing they arent doing this project in the valley I think a slug would have passed these guys by now.:D TKK

Ok, just talked to one of the project leaders for DVWD, they are currently almost across Gem. By the end of the day or possibly Monday they will be across. They are completely done with everything back from there, so your best bet in going to the lake is to use Jericho, Iris or "C" street to get to feather and brave the gravel (which the county has smoothed up) and drop in off of fisch. He thought that the county should start paving around the 17th so there will be a couple days more redirects from the county, but as far as DVWD is concerned they will be completely out of the lake traffic today or monday. These are really good guys and some are avid fishermen also, so they are doing their best to stay out of the lake traffic.
hey i am leaving in the morn 3/10/08 for lbc.I am staying in the forest service cabins are the roads good

The detours are back up, I think that the county is starting to smooth out for paving so you will need to run down the Culver Highway to Gem again.

OK, yesterday was not just smoothing, they actually dropped a 2" overlay on the Southbound lane of Feather and started on the northbound. Looked like they were just going to flag traffic through today, but you would still be better off using Gem to get to the lake today.

Yesterday (3/13) they finished paving from Iris to Fisch (the south turn to LBC), but they have the detours back up today. Not sure if they are edging, painting or what they are doing, they turn me about 3/4 of a mile before Iris.

Looks like they have everything except paint done on feather between Iris and Fisch, so there should not be any problem with access or detours to get down to LBC (gem might get closed for a day or two when the paving gets up to that point).
