I was driving home from work and noticed two "Latin-looking" individuals taking rods out of their truck at the Cedar River in Renton.
This river has been closed to all fishing for about 10 years to protect a precious run of Sockeye.
I approached the two as they were hucking 'buzz bombs' under an old railroad trestle and told them of the river closure. Their response was F#@# you!
I grabbed the ol' cell phone and did a 911 on their sorry butts.
I was outnumbered two-to-one by much younger and stronger guys, so I didn't hang around long. I saw a State Patrol Trooper with the blue light special flashing and headed in their direction within 10 minutes.
Sure hope they got what they deserve!
Way to go hoochie, my hat's off to you. Thanks for being a positive example to a serious problem.

Hoochie.
Way to step up...........What I most admire is the fact that as far as I can tell, you did not do a drive by a few minutes after the blue light special was turned on for them....Might have been nice to eyeball the basterds as they were met with the full rath of the law........

Its good to see people watch out for the things in life that are important. The guide lines to fishing legal streams, and watching out for the other illegal actions that occure way to often, especially when our water levels are down. I would like to know what number to call if I were in your predictament . I also hope that
Idon't have to watch 40 0r more people throw lines in a single hole behind the guide shop. That was redictulous to even watch.

That was smart to get out of there.
No sense in getting into a battle when your best ammo is to call 911 as you did.

Thanks for taking a stand on behalf of all sports fisherpeople. The old cell phone really has become a great tool in the battle over illegal fishing practices. Like the saying goes.......never leave home without it.
To bad we don't award medals, If we did, you'd be nominated.

Thanks for all the forum support guys, I had a pretty good feeling last night thinking about what I'd done for the fish.
Believe me, I wish I coulda been there to see the look on their faces!
Sticking around there wasn't an option for me at the time. I'm too old and outta shape to try to take on two younger guys. And they looked kinda rough around the edges.
The 911 call on the cell phone was my only choice as I didn't have WDFW's hotline handy.
The lady at 911 said she'd notify WDFW and the State Patrol asap. That's why I think the Trooper I saw just minutes later might have been headed for the Cedar.
Any time any of us can bust a snagger or poacher remember Nike's motto--- JUST DO IT !!!!!!!!!!!!

Good Job Hoochie,
Thank you for being a resposible Sportsman.
My suggestion is that all of those who have cell phones to get the "Turn in a Poacher" hotline plugged into your phones,Oregon & Washington, I have mine.
Let's all work together to get not just the litter off the river's, but all the trash!!!
