Hello I-fish folks!

I finally got on board after hearing numerous postitive comments about this site and being burnt out on the name calling and childish lack of conversation on other fishing sites.

I am not a North Coaster but am very interested in fishing and fish issues all over our great state.

I was born and raised in Grants Pass where I live today. I think I have Rogue River water in my blood because I have been a river rat ever since I can remember and have made life and career choices based on staying in the Rogue Valley.

A third generation Rogue Valley resident, my family has always been interested and involved in outdoor activies, fishing being right at the top.

My love of fishing and the outdoors led me to a carreer in the industry. I am a 27 year veteren of the sporting goods industry. The last 23 as a distributor representative. For the last 6 I have worked for a sporting goods wholesaler based in Clackamas, Or. service sporting goods dealers in So. Oregon.

One with little tolerance for those that complain of problems but refuse to act, I found myself in the middle of the Savage Rapids Dam controversy about 6 years ago and have since grown my involvment in fish issues.

I am still actively involved in the SRD fiasco, am a member of the Northwest Sportfishing Industry Association, vice chair of the Middle Rogue Watershed Council, a recently appointed member of the State Fish Screening Task Force and have just begun working with the City of Grants Pass on a new waste water management plan involving wetland and riparian health.

Other than fish, kids are my next passion. I am a member of my daughter's elementary school Site Council, have served on a principal hiring committee for North Valley Highschool where my oldest daughter graduated last year, am being considered for the district budget committee and am involved as a board member for a proposed charter school.

When not river ratting or doing some school thing, you will likely find me managing my small woodlot on a tributary of the Rogue.

I look forward to some stimulating conversation and would like to thank *** clerk for suggesting I participate on this board.

I am taking off today for the coast for a few days but will look forward to checking in next week.

Have a good weekend!

Straydog, welcome to Ifish

Your resume was quite the introduction  I would warn you about who to watch out for, but you will figure out soon enough who talks around here, and who fishes. And besides the list just keeps getting smaller

Tell us a fish story, and include some technique specifics.

Straydog,
Welcome to I-Fish!! I commend you for all the work you have done for the Rouge, and your kids. My family visited the Grants Pass area 2 Summers ago and fell in love with the area. We took a Jet Boat ride down to the power boat deadline. It was my first time on that beautiful river, and certainly not the best way to see it, but we really enjoyed the section we saw. If I can find a place down there when I retire, I know I will think I've found Heaven on Earth. Your a Lucky Man to live and raise your family in such a wonderful part of Oregon!!

Thank you all for your nice replies.

Yes, Oregon Live is really full of trash talk.

I didn't intend to sell myself, just giving some background to add perspective to future discussions.

Looking forward to learning from and talking with you all.

Welcome Stray.
This is a much more pleasant, and usually mellow, place to be than O-live. Although we have our moments.....

Thanks Nook!

I remember you from Olive, good to hear from you.

I think having "it's moments" is a good thing and can lead to a good exchange of information.

Olive got to the point that 'it's moments' of good, useful dialogue became less and less to the point of being of little interest to me.

Another welcome Straydog. I also love the Rogue. I was lucky enough to take a 4 day float trip on that river about 7 or 8 years ago. We floated from Galice to below Agness. Stayed at lodges every night. What a trip. We do refer to that trip as a FLOAT AND BLOAT!

Welcome aboard

Thanks Pete!

I made my first downriver trip at the age of 16, the year was 1969.

We took my older brothers 'rubber duckie', which he had taken several times previous.

It had a plywood frame and several folks at the Grave Creek boatramp were only semi joking when they asked if anyone wanted to put odds on our chances of making it beyond Rainie falls!

I have made literally hundreds of trips since and never fail to marvel at what a spcial place it is.

Straydog, Maybe some day I could supply the boat and the neccesities and we could do this float together. I sure would like to do that river again. My drift boat skills would not allow me to do it myself.

Welcome Straydog! I pass by your company's headquarters everyday, as I live up the Clack. That's quite the company I hear. Glad to see someone so involved. I'd stay and chitchat, but I gotta get into some of that trash talkin I'm hearing about over at O-Live!!!
