I had a really nice berkley series one rod last year it was a 7"6" MH action that i liked a lot(broke it) lol. But for christmas i got a berkley air IM7 buzz ramsey 7'9" i don't really like how long the handle is and not to sure if i'll be able to feel bites all that well with it. Anyone else use one of these for their heavy flipping rod?

Yeah I got a couple, but like you said too long a butt for flipping.
Throws 5 & 6" Wildeyes a country mile though. I use mine for trolling plugs and casting to TUNA!

My jig rods are 6.5' & 7' FLW Classic Tour rods. Same ones I use for walleye. These are what I picked up the Quantum Accurist AC501CX for.
butts are long enough for a power set and yet short enough for a controlled flip without catching on my belly. Darn thing gets in the way you know.

Fishermans had some of these brown slimulated wood colored rods 2-3yrs ago. My 7' 15-30lb Convergance rods are nearly identical.

7 foot 843 loomis blank..Its a MH but its got plenty of backbone.

I'd recommend getting a 7 foot instead of the longer models. Most of the time you are pitching anyways - water around here is usually too clear to make flipping viable. A 7 footer lets you pitch well, cast fairly well, and you can skip with it.

I like a 7'6" or 8' heavy or x heavy rod for filppin. I usually carry a couple sticks even when I am fishing clear water.

I traded-in flipping for pitching for most of the lakes around here. I have seen situations where a guy flips into a spot and a fish makes a move toward the bait and then the guy pulls the bait out of the water and flips back in to another spot- probably right where the fish was a few seconds ago- he he. Casey, wherever you're flipping, I want to go! I love those choked-up spots that you can run right up onto with the boat without spooking the fish. Great fun to yard them out of a bunch of junk, too. Is it Spring, yet?

i agree pitching is much more affective in the nw. my heaviest pole is MH i dont think theres a need to go over that here in the pacific northwest. i havent actually had a chance to flip in the northwest yet, but i pitch on almost every cast.

Note that I changed the title. I have a lovely flippin' stick, a Shimano Speedmaster. It's in every way equal to a GLoomis GL2 that I won in a raffle (and subsequently traded in on an IMX GLoomis spinning rod). I determined this by fairly scientific measuring...weight, balance point, deflection...all virtually identical. :meme:

I found one flipping stick was pretty useless, so sure didn't need another one. My favorite PITCHING rod is 6'6", and just works way better than a flipping stick does for pitchin'.
So, I use my Shimano flippin' stick for Carolina Rigging. Sometimes, I use a small circle hook on lizards and Senko's. Copolymer 14 lb. main line, Daiwa TD2hi, 10 lb. fluro leader, sweet! :smash: C&R, Steve

Ended up picking up the berkley series one up at sportmans that i had before. Good price and a very nice pitching rod.

Dave- I know a very fun place i use to fish that i think i've mentioned before to you, we need to pull some strings lol and fish that very soon. Lots of very quality fish, Some very fun flipping spots fished just like you said right on top of em in the boat in the flooded willows pulling them out of all sorts of crazy holes. Pretty insane where those things hide sometimes. Bring that float tube down sometime too there's another pond i know of with a few fish:wink:
