Any body do any good crabbing there? Heading out there this weekend looking for some vittles hoping to bring something home. Any good spots and what do you use for bait? All help will be appreciated. Thanks,

My favorite spot. Tides are pretty mellow now, bigger next week. Dont be afraid to go to the mouth, right side of center, 100-200 yards in from the surf. nest is the corner back up the bay. good luck

Smily-
My parents use to have a place there, it is a good mellow place to go. It is not a good place to take a larger V hull boat though. If I remember the ramp was not in very good shape as well but good for a smaller boat. You should be able to get bait at the bay. There is a rv park / boat rental place on the water they used to have a cooker also. I use to have the best luck right down the middle of the bay.
I do not agree with fish bait on going around the mouth. My parents place was right on the mouth and evey year the coast guard had to be called because someone was pulled out and flipped in the surf outside the bay. There is a realy bad rip through there. A good rule of thumb is to stay 100 yards up from the pilar with the sign on it at the beach by the mouth. You will know what I am talking about when you see it.
Have a good time and post a report when you get back I have not been there in years now. It would be fun to see how you did and if the place has changed.

I have done well along the south west side of the bay. I included a link to a map of the bay. Head for the deeper parts along the west side.

Smily,
My wife and crabbed Netarts on Tuesday and did fairly well given the amount of time we had to crab. We went straight West from the boat launch towards the ocean and crabbed in about 8-10' of water. I used chicken as usual and had good luck. I had a few shad which I had in the freezer but they weren't as popular as the chicken was. I talked to several people who limits of crab which they got around low tide. The tides are pretty minot but the crabs seemed to stay buried in the sand on the in coming tide.
I too, would also caution you on getting near the mouth. It is a shallow bar that can't be crossed, at least upright, which you really don't want to experience.
