My Wife and I fished Green Peter today. We started at 11:00. We caught 3 Kokanee and one Rainbow. One Kokanee at 12” two at 10” and 11” Rainbow. My Wife liked her new rod. I bought her a Shimano Talora TLA 70UL Kokanee rod at Joe’s in Albany. It was the Last one. I would like one too.
I never see many fish on my Fishfinder. I seen more at odell but not at Green Peter. I have a Lowrance X52 that came with my boat. I don’t know if it is any good or that I just don’t know what I’m doing. I’m thinking about a new one. I like the colored fishfinder but they maybe to much. Does anyone have subjections?
Thank you Larry

Hey Larry. :wave:

I'm far from an expert at Kokanee fishing (or any other angling for that matter) but fishing and mountain camping are my favorite pastimes. For koke fishing, a good quality fish finder is one of the most important investments that any of us can make. Back in 2004 my old Eagle Ultra finally bit the dust and I checked out some of the newer ones that were on display at Fisherman's Warehouse in Salem. My eyesight hasn't been very good the last few years, so it was hard to believe what a difference the new color screens made as far as visibility. They are easy to read in any light conditions. I bought a Lowrance x100c (color) fish finder (460 bucks at that time) and have never regretted it. It's helped put a heck of a lot of kokes in the fish basket. I'm sure that this model # has been updated, replaced, and probably been improved upon but mine sure has done the job well. This one has a 320x240 pixel display with 76,800 total pixels. It shows the fish, their depths, and the bottom contour very clearly. These are probably the main considerations for most koke fishermen. It has a ton of other features as well and is very user friendly. If I can use it to find fish and catchem' ... anybody can. :wink:

Thank you for the report... and you have a great signature too!

:yeahthat::agree:

Oh, by the way if you see him out there, just follow him around, he'll find fish when no one else will!!

The color finders are the way to go especially with Kokes. Lowrance makes nice units. I have a Hummingbird that is the equilivant of the 727C and it does ok, but most of the really serious koke fishermen that i have talked to are running Furuno units, the FCV 620 and the FCV 585 are awesome finders.

How usable is the lower ramp on GP? I thought it was still snowed in?

We pick up a few now but the water is cold and they don’t bite to well. It was 46 degrees last week. It gets better when the water warms up. It should be good from May to Aug. Check other reports for tips. You will need downriggers if you don’t want to use a lot of lead. Fish are more fun that way. Lead is lead. A very good Fish finder will help. I had a Lawrence X52 that came with my boat and was not too good I just order a new one today I liked what I saw and ordered a Humminbird 777C2 FishFinder. 5" TFT Color, Display 640V X 480H Ultra-High Resolution. Maximum 4000 Watts Peak-To-Peak (500 Watts RMS) Power Output. It’s an Ultra High Resolution, High Performance Color Fishing System. That cost me $450.00
Good luck Fishing
