Hey All,

I'm usually chasing bigger game fish when I go out, but the action usually isn't fast enough to keep my two young girls interested. I heard Crappie make good Sturgeon bait so I was hoping someone would be willing to share some of their knowledge with me. I've never been Crappie fishing, so I was hoping someone could suggest a place close to Scappoose to try it out. I'm hoping the kids can have fun catching some, then I'd give 'em a try as Sturgeon bait. I have a boat, just looking for a little advice. I'm looking for places to try as well as water types/structures I should be looking for. I planned on just letting them use jigs off the side of the boat. Thank you in advance for any tips.

I have caught some crappie while fishing for yellow perch at the mouth of the gilbert river on sauvies island. I have also heard about people catching crappie in the gilbert river around current breaks and brush that is all over the shore. just jig crappie jigs around wood pilings and other structure in 10 feet or deeper water. I have caught them straight down from the shore at about 12 feet deep of water.

Years ago my uncle used to launch a small jon boat into McNary Lk there by the Gilbert launch and catch crappies.
Might be something some of the guys with float tubes, kayaks and pontoon boats could do.

Whe I was a kid my day would take us out to Santosh slough, not sure the access is still open but it's near your neck of the woods and lots of crappie.
