I've done this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NU01rhjs9OI particular canoe trip 3 or 4 times, taking two days, exiting Seattle early AM Saturday, returning late PM Sunday. May or late September is good (less heat, fewer B-29 Bugs). Tent camping about halfway down. Fishing is usually excellent for LM and BG's, mostly in sloughs off the side of the wasteway. Wind can be a problem. Finding your way downstream can be a problem. Follow the current! These guys actually went all the way to Potholes Res., probably taking out at the Blythe Launch or State Park.

The put-in is off Dodson Rd., S. of I-90, between George and Cuidad de Moses Lake. Our take-out is at the "gaging station" off O'Sullivan Dam Rd. It is shown in the video. Look for the parked canoe and concrete toilet facility.
There are two wasteways, Winchester and Frenchman Hills. This is agricultural runoff water that works its way down from Banks Lake. We eat a few fish, but I wouldn't eat a lot of them. :passout:All of their tummies have been full of dragonflies, which can't be real nourishing.

Frenchman wasteway is supposed to have SM, and runs roughly parallel. We did catch one Walleye in a slough of the Winchester and rarely, a Crappie. I've never seen a yellow perch up there, or a SM. If you go, KISS. Senko's and circle hooks would be perfect, spinning or baitcasters, but not more than 10 lb mono or 20 lb braid. Splitshotting 5" or 6" lizards or worms would work great. The fish are dumb, and we usually get a few in the 4+ bracket. :meme: C&R, Steve

PS: If you can also fit in a good concert at "The Gorge at George", you'll have a very full and wonderful (3 day) weekend! Don't plan to buy tickets at the gate! You can usually buy them from scalpers, possibly even for face value. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NU01rhjs9OI While you're at YouTube, look at other canoe trips by the same guys...very well done and enjoyable. Turn up the sound.
