Good thread....

The first tackle bag I got was a Bass Pro Shops one, carried 5 big boxes (3700) and 1 small box (3600), but the zippers kept falling apart on me, but I may have over stuffed it a couple of times.

This X-Mas, got a Cabelas gift card and picked up when of there bags:
Cabelas Gear Bag (http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/pod/horizontal-pod.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/pod-link.jsp_A&_DAV=MainCatcat20166-cat20327_TGP&rid=&indexId=cat20327&navAction=push&masterpathid=&navCount=1&parentType=index&parentId=cat20327&id=0038875)

So far it seems to be a great bag and the model I chose holds more than enough, but obviously hasn't made it a whole season yet...

Nothing wrong with a backpack full of plastic Plano boxes for a cheap solution.

Still using the tackle box method. Often use my fly fishing vest for easy access to tools and the basics.....

I've probably got 3 or 4 gear bags that came with those 3600 Plano boxes or clones. I'm not a fan of the boxes, because most of the lids warp, the hinges break, or the latches break. I have gotten some of the 3700 sized sealed boxes, and kinda like them, but they're of course slow to open and close. But the lids don't warp, and they haven't broken, so far.

Mostly, I organize my plastics (I'm a plastics fanatic) by type in gallon Glad Freezer zip bags, and put a few of those in the gear bag, along with one or two of the boxes (hooks, sinkers, Rapalas) a Chatillion scale, a bottle of Smelly Jelly Sticky Liquid, and some disgorgers, needle nose pliers, knives, etc. Truth is, a good gym bag would work as well as most the special fishing bags, for half the price.

My tackle box broke a couple years ago, and my woman friend lent me this, umm, "case" to use, which I've stuck with since. The big box holds 10+ hard plastics and several inline spinners and fits in the front. The small four-compartment box can hold about 20 hooks and a bunch of split shots or bullets and goes in the main compartment. I usually use the other small box for small spinnerbaits or load it with a few things for instant access and stick it in my pocket. Big spinnerbaits and buzzbaits go in an old Senko bag and fit in the main compartment together with about 10 bags of plastics (in their original bags), some pliers, and whatever else I'm using at the time. If I'm going out on a long trip, I'll also bring a Plano 3-tray with overflow to restock the main bag. I'll also sometimes bring one of those blue Shimano bags that holds about 20 more bags of plastics.

If you happen to gather lots of soft plastics, I would consider a 'worm wallet'. Here's a pic of what I have:

Some of the bags that come with can be bad quality, but I bought mine thru Tackle Warehouse via the web, and they sent me replacement bags at no cost, and promptly. IMHO, this option is better than plastics leaching their color and scent all over each other in the standard BPS tackle boxes (3600's and 3700's).

I guess I failed to mention that I leave my plastics in the OEM bag, and put those into the Gallon Zip Bags. When the factory bag is empty I put it in my jeans pocket. I know it's time to get more, and I have the brand, size, color, etc. If you pack your plastics into those 3600's and 3700's (nekkid), you might forget what brand, size or color it was. That's no help at all when it's time to re-order or pick some up. FWIW. :meme:C&R, Steve

No bags here just a huge Plano 758 that ways as much as a group 27 deep cycle. Maybe more.
