Hi
Well I pulled the trigger on a 1986 Johnson 2 stroke 6 hp engine
The price was where justification for spending double or triple of my money for a 4 stroke just wasn't there. The few times a year I fish and for all the other stuff I need to buy I just couldn't do it.
Thank you for the Input on outboard kickers. When the time comes I'll probly buy a Yami 4 stroke but for now this engine is great it starts on 1 pull Idles down perfect and has less than 100 hours of use. I just couldnt pass it up.

So my question is what fuel mixture do I run? the sticker on the outboard says 100 to 1 ratio the guy I bought it from told me 50 to 1 ratio
What mix do I use?
I'm going to use synthetic to keep the smoke down. but what about the 10 percent ethanol that it's going to have in it?
does that effect my mixture? is that why he said I need to run a 50 to 1 mixture
Should I run a 100 to 1 or a 50 to 1?

Which mixture do you use?

Thanks

50:1 is the mixture you are looking for! Unless you are running a synthetic such as amsoil. Then it could be 100:1

I use Klotz synthetic in my old 2 stroke. It did not smoke at all, and I mixed it 50:1. Smells good too. A little spendy, but having to sit next to it all day, it's worth it.

I know of a few trolling motors that have been run 100:1 for years, but only at low speeds. If you use it for more than trolling, go 50:1.

For a time in the 80's they recommended 100 to 1, it was changed back a short time later and they went back to recommending 50-1 even for the years with the 100-1 sticker. The problem was there wasn't enough oil left internally for storing the motor for very long, so rust and corrosion could start easier.

I say split the difference and run 75:1:D

I think 50-1 is what you want, you may have to change the plugs after every season . but that should be done any way. :twocents:

Thank you for the clarification I will run 50 to 1 synthetic to keep the smoke down,
This will be used for a kicker and I just wanted to make sure that I run the correct mixture.

I have a '90 8hp Evinrude. The manual recommends 100:1 unless you do lots of sustained high speed operation.

There won't be much Hi speed operation out of this little outboard
It's just going to be used for trolling.
I'll experiment with 50 to 1 synthetic and if it's really bad smoke wise I will than maybe run a leaner mixture.

SB 1079 passed yesterday and since it is emergency legislation, hopefully the governor will sign it soon. Every marina has an exemption now to order unblended gasoline. Unfortunately it is permissive language so there may not be a large enough market to make the fuel available. Ask your marina if they are going to order it, and if they can get it and keep us posted. Or if you have a gas station you frequent, ask them if they are going to order it. Unfortunately they will probably need a separate tank and pump, but ask them anyway and see what they say. I would like to know. If you can't get it call or notify the Oregon State Marine Board and let them know. Hopefully next year we can get HB 2210 repealed. After the debacle they had with the Salem police cars a couple of days ago, maybe the legislature will get the message.
