As Americans, we are entitled to get together with whomever we want, whenever we want, and say whatever we want, and for that we should be thankful. If a bunch old fogies want to get away for a weekend, call it **** , fish, have fun AND at the same time raise money for the Tillamook Anglers and handicapped kids (over $23,000), then so be it! Leave them alone. It is their right to do so. If you don t like it,start your own Women only event. They won't be bothering you to attend.

OOPS! I just wanted to find out what **** was. You must be talking about the fishing derby mentioned in another thread.

I have to admit that I was offended in the way that this S.H.I.T. tournament was explained to me in the first thread on ifish.
The whole idea of excluding women bothered me.
Now I think of it this way...
This is a group of guys from Portland that get together to go fishing. It became a tradition.
Like hunting trips, like fishing trips, "the guys getaway".
I used to get together and go with the girls for a getaway to the beach when my kids were young and I was living in Portland. I wouldn't have wanted men there. It was a "gals" thang... so I see it similar to that, now.
This trip became traditional. They decided to raise a little money while doing it, and wanted a good place to donate, give BACK to the fisheries what they were taking out. They called the ODFW and were directed to Tillamook Anglers.
I am a member and support Tillamook Anglers. They are a very important and wonderful group of dedicated anglers, and without them, you wouldn't find many fish around these parts.
I can hear it coming back at me now... "So just because they support something good, they can do as they please?" I know... It's a tough issue.
Although it is a bitter pill to swallow still, I have to say that they are a great group of guys who mean well.
I have been informed that the organizer of S.H.I.T is very supportive of women, both in his personal life and in his job.
I have digested all the information that has been provided to me. I come up with a final conclusion that it is too bad that they exclude women. It is and will be a tough issue for years to come.
I will continue to encourage women to participate in any sport they wish, and to be aware of any issues that exclude my rights as a fisher woman. This tournament, however, I support as a mens function that raises money for a much needed organization.
Now gals, how can we raise money?
We know we as anglers, are competitive with men. How can we match, or 'outfish' the financial support they are contributing to our resource?
That, to me, hits home.
Thanks,
Jennie

Who is this 'Hey Yall', anyway? Nothing but smart-*** replies, and definitely no fishing knowledge to contribute what-so-ever. I think it's just jealousy, since women are excluded from the event, that leaves 'Hey Yall' out, too..... images/icons/grin.gif images/icons/tongue.gif

I to did not understand what this was all about. It was my understanding that this tournament was a public event that did not allow the opposit sex to participate. It apparently is not a public event but an invitation only event. In that case i would support it. If i stepped on any toes please accept my apology. Cagey

how about a fish fry for the women with the fish the men catch, after all thats why women have short feet so they can get closer to the stove and sink

Watch out, I hear they might have a pee test just in case. Ya gotta be able to pee out of the boat while standing, that's the test. JK images/icons/smile.gif
Women should be allowed to have their own gatherings, and men should be able to have their's without the opposite sex if they wish, if it is funded by private funds. Ladies have plenty of their own events that they hold just for women, men should be able to do so without ridicule. Think of how many male beauty queens are allowed to compete in the Miss America Pagent. ( I have nice legs, a tight bottom, and can balance a checkbook faster than anyone, my talent, so I feel slighted)
How many guys want to show up at a bridal shower? A baby shower? Wait, even better, a candle party!
Granted that there are some cool ladies here who like to fish. I salute you, and I wish that I was as lucky as your male partners to have a lady friend who liked to fish.
I promise not to go to a candle party if you promise not to dress in drag (is that appropriate for a woman posing as a man?) and crash the boy's fishing function.
Okay?

Ya know, I'm too used to Erickson to take him seriously.
Give me a week with him and I'll have him straightened out.
He'll be frying bacon and baking bread.
Did I tell you once I went over there and he was vacuuming the house with an apron on?

clean the bathroom ,cook the meals, dust the house and cater to loretta's every whim. If Jim gets the chores done, he might be able to go fishing...lol Hey Jim, I hope the apron wasnt pink, because its not your color.
