I've got a 2005 50hp 2 stroke Merc with approx. 50 hrs on my duck boat. It is electic start, tilt and usually fires. The problem is that on occasion I turn the key and nothing happens, and the motor will not tilt either, as if the battery is dead, which it is not. I check the usual causes, motor not in neutral, loose connections, etc. The cure is to disconnect the motor from the battery and reconnect it and then it fires right up. Any ideas on a cause/cure? I've had it back to the dealer but they say everything is fine as far as they can tell.

My Brother had the same issues with his oil injected '05 Merc 40hp.
His even went so far as to raise and lower itself as well. I rememeber the first time it happened. We had the boat pulled into camp while waiting for the opener the following morning. We we're sitting in out chairs next to the fire and it just started to trim itself up. We looked at each other with a "we haven't had that many beers" kinda look.
A few minutes later it trimmed itself back down. It was a trip.:crazy:
His dealer never could find anything wrong either.:shrug:

It would seem to be a bad connection at the post you remove.
