While backtrolling plugs I gave the kicker a little bit of throttle and the engine revved up but prop thrust was lacking, pulled the prop off and the rubber in the hub showed signs of slipping. The question is could this be caused by not having the prop nut tight enough?or is the prop toast?and if it's toast is there a 4 blade prop I can use or do I need to stick with OEM prop. The motor is a 95ish Merc 8hp and I believe the prop on it is a 9x9,cant ID motor any closer than that, lost sticker on it when I changed swivel bracket,Merc # on old prop is 48-42522-9.Thanks for any answers

I think your prop is toast. You should be able to use any 9 pitch (or lower) prop listed in a catalog for a merc 8hp.

your prop has a spun hub, you can get a new rubber hub pressed in , but I have found they fail prematurely...
I only buy new props now, your not forced to buy OEM, there are after market prop makers that make better props, some pricer, some cheaper.
48-42522-9... 9X9 that fits mercury 6,8,9.9, and 9.9 4strokes 1986 & newer

I have dealt with Seattle Prop works before. Fast and fair.
