Anybody ever heard of a rear main seal oil leak healing? I have a new boat with a Volvo D-6 diesel and it has leaked a slight amount of oil out the rear main seal since it has been in my possesion. I talked to the owner of the dealership where I bought it and he stated that alot of times leaks like mine will lessen with time. Now I am not a certified V/P diesel mechanic and I try to keep an open mind so as to learn but it sounds like a crock of huuuey to me. I am a trained industrial refrigeration mechanic and have built a few gas motors over the years and in my experience a leak like this usually only gets worse as it is usually an imperfection in the seal or sealing surface caused by a defect in manufacture or damage during installation. Any opinions ?

i have never seen a leak from any kind of machine heal itself and stay that way, if you have a warrenty on the motor i would get it fixed asap.if not monniter and plan on doing it sooner or later. if it was my problem i would not go to far out because murphy has given me a warning. :twocents:

Now thats just funny ... Self healing seals ... New one on me ... some of the old packing seals will actually self seal, but a neoprene or rubber one will not ...:twocents:
