Which would be a better configuration for a prop, 3 or 4 blade, and
why.:what: This would be on a 23' I/O boat w/ a 275 - 300 hp motor.
I would like to yank some kids around but will be fishing with it also.:D
So, what do you guys think.
Thanks

more blades= quicker acceleration. fewer blades= more top end, higher cruise speed at comparable rpm. Unless you are marginally underpowered or are pulling heavy people my recommendation would be 3 blade stainless.

:agree:
But one other factor to consider is what kind of conditions you'll be running in. If you run a lot in really rough water you might consider a four-blade since it's often a little better at holding in rough stuff.

4 blade lower pitch for the kids and you'll have a better hole shot. 3 blade higher pitch for fishing and cruising.

I had a 3 blade on my 20 foot seaswirl with a 305 Chevy. I had trouble with the 15-25 mph area when pulling wake boards. I spoke with Ampro and they recommended a 4 blade prop. What a difference. It keeps the nose down at the lower speeds and I can turn with little drop in mph and rpm. I did not really notice much difference in the cruising.
If you want to try one out, Ampro will sell you one and you can try it and if it does not work out they will work with you on it. They are very user friendly. John

have them both at the ready, what does it take, 10 mins to swap out a prop?

My experience:
It depends upon the boat. Many dealers have spare props that they will let you try before you buy.
I'd do that before making a purchase.
Considering making a change myself right now. Steven's Marine in Tigard said they have several that I can try and see how I like them first.
Just my 2 cents.
