I have an older 8 hp Mariner Outboard motor. Is there anyone in the Portland area who works on these? Are parts available? It hasn't been run in years, and the last time it was run it had carb problems. Thanks.

FYI, you may already know this but if not - The early Mariners were actually built by Yamaha until the late 80's at which time Mercury purchased the line. Mercury later discontinued distribution in North America althought I believe Mariner is still sold internationally. Many of the parts have been converted over to Mercury part #'s. I have an older Mariner 8HP, about mid 80's, and get parts at Stevens Marine when I need to do maintenance. Thus, anyone servicing Mercury should be able to help you. When they run they are a good little engine. Good luck

Thanks everyone. I spoke to one of the Stevens Marine salesmen yesterday at the Sportsmans Show and he was very helpful. He told me that it was probably a Yamaha (I bought it in 1978/79 timeframe). He said that anyone who worked on Yamaha or Mercury could probably fix it, but to have the compression checked and the lower unit checked for water in the oil before I put any money into it. It used to be a great little trolling motor, so I hope I can get it up and running again for a reasonable cost.
