Eugene area has tons of good areas to fish, the mackenzie and the willamette all have good trout and steelhead options.

From your other posts it sounds like your interested in getting into fly fishing for steelhead, however, trout fishing is the best place to start.

The same techniques used for steelhead fishing. ie. nymphing and swinging flies are also very effective on trout.
If you go head to the willamette or mackenzie you can swing large sculpin patterns on a sink tip or nymph with a few standard nymphs and egg flies and do quite well. The transition to steelhead will be much easier if you get these techniques down on trout first.

Of course many of the waters around Eugene are catch and release for wild trout so if youre hoping to fill the freezer, it might be better to head to Alton Baker park or the middle Mackenzie during the summer as these spots are full of planters.

Anyways, I'm new here. I introduced myself over on the main board. But I flyfish almost exclusivley so I'll probably post much more over here.

Grettings.

If your new to flyfishing, then why do you always ask about jigs and such in the community forum?

Where is your intro story "Thwetnet"
I still have no clue what extreme fly fishing is. Maybe if you have time you could help us understand.

Don't let these guys get you down Mayfish (where did you come up with Mayfish???). You live in a fly fishing target rich zone. My nephew runs a sporting goods store in Eugene. If you are stumped for places ot go, PM me and I'll send you his email info. I'm sure he'll be able to help you out.
