I have the room to transom mount my kicker, I also have a nice piston assist kicker motor bracket

anyone have opinions of advantages or disadvantages from either mounting method?

thanks for the input

I have done them both way. Current is transom mount. I feel this way is far better when the boat is on the trailer. The bracket always seemss to bounce around a lot. Plus you cam bolt thru transom for a little more security. (theft)

Couldn't you bolt thru the kicker bracket and make a transom saver to keep it from bouncing??

I would always choose the direct transom mounting over an extended bracket. Basic physics, leverage, flexing.... a bracket mounted trolling motor is constantly bouncing and attempting to break loose from its foundation on the boats transom.I know there are some well made brackets out there, but given the choice, why not go with the sturdiest connection?

I even get nervous looking at many of the new gill brackets/offshore brackets for big outboards. Supporting 600#'s of 4 stroke 3 feet away from the boats transom and adding stress from huge quantities of thrust, torque, bounce and flex just has to result in stress cracks in .190 aluminum :)

NorthRiver did ease my fears a bit recently by reconfiguring the offshore bracket to continue on along the bottom line. I think they may have some of the design issues I worry about.

Whoa..I said way too much for such a simple answer. Yes...I am just another internet expert :)
