Did anyone float the Clackamas this weekend?
Is there a shuttle service from Barton to Carver? I'm floating tomorrow and am looking for a ride back up to Barton images/icons/smile.gif

Sassy's cab used to do it but last time I called them we waited for over an hour and a half with no cab. Finally got a ride from another fisherman. I don't know of any shuttles out here at all anymore. However, if you find one, let us know.
Hammerfish,
I floated Barton to Carver yesterday (sun). Fishing was the worst I have seen it all year. I had a couple of hits on a corkie and yarn, but din't hook a fish. I fished Deep Creek from first light to 11:00 and saw only two fish caught. The water looked good and the flow was good, so I am not sure what is wrong with the bite. There seemed to be less fish in the hole that there has been in the past month. There were far fewer fish rolling, but at least most of them were bright.
Does anyone have a report on Eagle Creek? I am wondering if all of the fish went up the creek with the rain.

Hey I've got a question about this section of water, so I'm going to post it here.
If I want to float this section in a 12 foot john boat are there any area's I should watch out for? I've taken this boat down the Lewis several times, but the Clack. seems to have more hairy spots. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks.
My report: Fished the hole below Eagle creek on Sunday and only saw 2 legally caught fish all morning. Word is from the regulars that when Eagle Creek came up high and muddy on Wednesday and Thursday, tons of fish made a push up the creek. If they aren't already in the hatchery, then they should be getting close so go high on them. There wasn't any action for the lower mile of Eagle Creek. I think that's why there seem to be less fish in the Clack right now.

Hit Eagle Creek on Sunday. Hiked into the canyon at o-dark thrity and ended up w/ 3 on and one bright 10 lb hen landed. Corkies and yarn w/ shrimp scent seemed to be the ticket. Didn't see or hear of any other fish caught. Saw very few moving through the riffles even.
I wouldn't take a john boat down the Clack from Barton to Carver. Just a little ways below Barton there is a bad section of rapids that you could easily loose it in. Plenty of other low spots and bad riffles. I've seen inexperienced DB's sunk in some of these spots. Not worth the risk IMHO.
Bounty Hunter,
Barton to Carver is a pretty easy stretch of water to navigate in a sled or a driftboat. That being said, when the water is low like it is now, I hit bottom almost every time I drift that stretch. My driftboat has a thick aluminum hull and a fresh coat of Gluvit, so I can take a pretty good hit and still slide off of rocks. I think a thin-hulled johnboat might be a bad idea because it is not designed to take waves and probably doesn't row nearly as well as a driftboat.
I have seen a wooden driftboat split in half and I have seen someone else dump a driftboat ( I pulled them out of the water with my sled) on the same section of river, so I wouldn't try it in a johnboat.

Thanks for the pointers damc and Birdhunter. In that case I guess I'll pass on that drift. (Unless I get a real wild hair and feel like portaging a lot images/icons/smile.gif )
