Ok I feel like ever time I post here It's because i have something to gripe about. I am really tired of finding lured there with barbed trebel hooks!!! And on Warts 2 of them..
Read and follow the regs!!! Single barbless hooks!!!!! Barbed trebels KILL!

Rob,
Help me out with a clarification. I now fish both WA and OR, and have two reg books with which to comply.
I can't find the "barbless hooks required" reg for The Deschutes. I assume you're referring to the mouth up the N. boundry of Warm Spg Res.
I did find (pg 12) where barbless are "strongly recommended" but no requirement for barbless.
An email would also be appreciated from anyone who can help me out with this clarification.
Thanks in advance.

Really??? It's been barbless for years?? The same time it went to no bait and the slot limit was placed on trout. Must have changed I guess if it's not in the regs.
Guess that probably why there are fewer large trout being caught..

Rob check your regs. There is no barbless requied rule anymore. I know, I talked to a game checker. Single point hooks required off the mouth in the Columbia to limit the snagging. Don't gripe if you don't know the regs.

Have to agree with Steeliesteve, read your regs before jumping on people about not following them. There are no hook regs over there anymore.

Barbless single point hooks went away 4 yrs ago on the Desch. However I still use single, barbed siwash (unless fly fishing) as I feel the hookup better and hold better. My understanding for the re-instatement of barbed multi point hooks was research showing mortality rates were no better with the use of barbless hooks than they were with barbed hooks.

Rob,
Don't feel too bad. I'm new hear and it's hard to keep up. I have a friend in The Dalles who was told at the beginning of the season that it was barbless. Then I heard it wasn't. Just trying to keep up.
Ya know, some fish are gonna die before they get a chance to spawn, oh well! images/icons/frown.gif
If you heart is in the right place and you do your best to fish morally and legally, then that's all anyone can ask for.
It's barbless on the Snake and several other places around here. I'm statring to like it.
It sure is easier to turn loose of the ones you don't want and the heart pumps a just little faster with the knowledge that this one can get away a little easier. images/icons/cool.gif

Rob,
let me be the sixth person to say that you were wrong.
keep the faith, and don't let any "study" or fisherman out there tell you that barbed trebles don't make a difference in fish mortality. We've all been there with pliers wrangling a barbed treble from a fish's mouth at one point or another (maybe as little kids who didn't know better?). Yes, it means fish often bleed more or get their mouths all torn up, and yes the fish are out of the water longer as we try to wrestle that barbed treble out of their mouth.
Personally, if I lose 50% of my fish because of single barbless hooks and as a result ONE wild fish every year is saved, then it is worth it to me, regulations be da&^**ed!!!
