I have a problem with my interior zolatone paint chipping on the interior rails and sides of my boat. It seems there is no clear coat over the paint. This is my first North River and I am disappointed with the interior paint. My previous Alumaweld Super Vee's had strong paint. You could throw a bowling ball around with no problem. Has anybody else had this problem? Any advise? I am a little nervous to have North River repaint it. I don't know how it would turn out. I am open to any suggestions. I have thought of having the upper rails done with Line-X or Rhino lining. Please comment. Thanks.

North Rivers paint is terrible. I also have had this problem with my North Rivers. I switched boat companies.

I love my boat, but would like to fix this one problem. Did North River try to help you out?

I was going to look at some NR scouts and called 3 times to 2 different dealers and the sales service was so bad I could not imagine what after sale service would be. Went with the Super Vee...now after hearing this about thier zolotone I feel even better!

Firefisherman I feel for ya on this, sounds like they did not clear coat it.

Keep in mind that your poll sample here is two people- not very representative. If you experienced poor service, I feel for you. There's good and bad service stories for every manufacturer. Luckily enough, the team that services my Scout does a fantastic job (up here in WA).

As for the interior zolatone, I have not experienced the issue that is at hand here. I have fished my 20' Scout pretty hard steelheading and salmon fishing and the interior zolatone has held up quite well. However, I DID Line-X my tackle trays and front deck which has been *great* for me. Easy cleanup, no worries about dings or scratches and it makes for a quiet boat when I set stuff in the trays.

The zolatone from the floor to the trays is still intact and the rear seems to be holding up fine as well. That being said, I've seen the zolatone on Alumaweld and Willie and yes, it does appear to be and feel like it is thicker and better coated. NR could probably take a page from those two, but that doesn't mean I have any interest in switching. I love my boat.

Reelfine thanks for the reply. Who services your boat in Washington?

I work through NR in Marysville (Ray and J.D.).

I own a NR 21' commander and had really good service when I called the factory in Roseburg. Consider calling down there and see if you can speak to Roy Brush. He was extremely helpful in getting questions answered and getting things fixed for me. I live in Tri Cities, WA and they arranged for me to have my work done locally so I didn't have to take it to the nearest authorized shop (Portland, OR). I do have to say that it seems to help when you deal with the manufacturers directly with your problem.

Thanks Holeymolar. I have seen your boat. It is a good looking boat even with a windshield. I dread the fact if I have to drive down to Roseburg to get it painted. Then I worry how it is going to turn out. How is your interior paint holding up?

Firefisherman,

The interior paint is holding up very well. Up until this post I hadn't realized that there were problems with this. I do have a little crack in the paint where the hinge for the walk through windshield is, although that is my fault..... I did one too many crazy 360 spins and the windshield swung open..... Maybe you can take some pics and e-mail them with a description to the guys at NR (Roseburg) and see if Northwest Jet can repaint the interior for you at NR's expense. I would seriously try talking to the guys at the factory not the showroom.

Thanks for the boat compliment! Very shortly I will be having Green Butt Skunk place some graphics on the sides. Next time out the boat will look a little different. Good luck with the paint issue.

There are epoxy marine paints that are very tough. I think you could also apply gelcoat

I spoke with North River at the Portland Sportman's show and they are going to repaint the interior. Portland Performance is stepping up and taking it to Roseburg for me. I hope everything works out. Thanks for the info.
