View Full Version : Double Corky, No Bait

Did anyone have a chance to catch the fishing report in Thursday's "The Oregonian"? A couple from Scappoose weighed in a 58# fish and a 51#, 43#, and 35# fish the week before. The fish were caught in the Trask tidewater on a double corky rig, no bait, plunked on the bottom. That double corky rig, no bait, plunked on the bottom, must be one hot mamba jamba, fish catching technique. When was the last time you caught a 4 fish limit that averaged 46.5 pounds?! I have witnessed people fishing the double corky rig, no bait, in the past. Although, the technique I have seen is a little different and goes something like this: A cast is made into the hole where multiple fish are stacked up, the double corky rig, no bait, is given time to sink to the bottom. When it is determined that the double corky rig has settled on the bottom, a slow retrieve is commenced. When a subtle bump is felt, a long hard sweeping jerk of the rod can be witnessed. I have seen fish just slam the double corky rig, no bait. The fish like the double corky rig, no bait, so much they slam it with their bellies, their sides, their tails, and I have even seen where the fish have slammed the double corky rig, with no bait, with their dorsal fin. It is amazing to see the response that these fish have towards the double corky rig, no bait. I can't stand it any longer, I have to try this double corky rig, no bait, but I think I will just plunk it on the bottom.
Is a plunked double corky the way to go, or is someone feeding "The Oregonian" a line?

This post sounds like a "set up" post to me, but I'll bite, just in case it's real. DON'T do it in any Trask tidewater hole I am fishing in with a bobber. Sounds like a few others would agree as well. images/icons/rolleyes.gif
Don't worry you'll know who I am. If this is just an excited, innocent post, (fat chance it sounds like to me) no offense, but still DON'T do it and snag fish around me.

You did NOT Scott! LOL. images/icons/grin.gif I have not believed it for years, but getting too old to be river "sheriff" anymore out there.
Can make their day REAL miserable though if they are anywhere near me.
Still fun after about five in a row, to "ooops" get it wrapped up in my tuff line, pull it to my boat, look at it and go "Yep, it's snagged" and watch em' freek out!

Hey Rick,
When the snaggers get thick up your way(I don't go above 5th street much) call me and we can have a tuff vs. whatever they are using contest. I will bet you a buck that I can take out more bottom fishing scrot lickers and their double corkies in my first three cast than you can. Hey, waht the heck, lets just take turns for a couple of hours and see how much gear we can collect, then we can go to the swap meet and trade for some bobbers. Now that I have quit the ciggs, I'm pushing 240, I know you are no tyke, do you think anybody would dare mess with the two of us? this could be fun between the bobber bites........

I landed a couple nice silvers yesterday on the coast on a rigup of a green-glow corkie, chartreuse yarn, and some shrimp scent on the yarn. Trust me, these were mouth shots as I'm not good enough of a salmon angler to be able to snag them.
There were several foul-hooked fish yesterday too, but there were also several fish that took that hook right in the front of the mouth.

Could probably use some help Steve. My Dad is coming in towards the end of the week, and since he is older than me (LOL) looks like I am going to have to take the BIG Willie boat up in tidewater since he can't deal with the weather and sitting in the driftboat. Can't wait to catch the grief for that one, but he is not going to be around much longer, so anyone with objections can just "bite me" I suppose. LOL. images/icons/grin.gif

Actually Fishbait, I am just a "teddy bear." but as you all should know, if you don't, in a spot full of legal and common sense fishermen, PEER PRESSURE, without violence, on the spot by the OVERALL GROUP present and witnessing it, can do wonders with these situations. Not always though, don't get hurt and don't make me, Dot and Bev the only ones in the hole yelling at them, or hitting them with my crutches, damn it.
After a bunch snagged in a row, even innocently by the ignorant, if it's repeated, again and again, I'll start the friendly reminders, so jump in there, as a group, K? LOL. Ain't cell phones with boat numbers cool as heck too! images/icons/wink.gif
