Hi all,
Any advise on a spot to fish from the bank or wade that is within an hour or so of portland. I just moved back to the area. Any help would be greatly appricated. Willing to trade some cooking advise. I was a real fine dinning chef for years. I did an old fashoned apprenticeship w/ a french master chef.

Lets see within an hour of portland. Theres the Sandy, Calckamas, Lewis(Wa), Kalama(Wa), Willamette, Columbia, Santiam(I think).

As for spots on each of these rivers someone else is gonna have to go there.

fishbane - welcome to the board and back to the PacNW

Head to the Kalama. Take I5 North to Exit 32. Head down the River Road and you'll see the Kalama Bait and Tackle on your righthand side about 2 miles down the road.

Stop in there and speak with Sandra. She's an ifisher that runs that place. She'll know where to put you and you should have plenty of bank access. If you go, let me know how you do, is all I ask. images/icons/cool.gif And try to pick up 5 pieces of garbage if you can as this river is very serene, and every bit helps that you can pull out of the canyon.

Hello Fishbane welcome back to Oregon. There are many rivers around here to fish. The Sandy , Wilson and Clackamas Rivers are some of the easiest bank access. But there many other rivers you can find.(1) Ask some tackle store personal where to go. They would help you get the grear you might need.(2)It can be very easy to find the hot fishing spots. Look for a ton of cars stopped on the side of the road by the river you are checking out. Go down see how they are fishing it and fish just the way they are fishing it. (3)Join Northwest Steelheaders group in your area. Its a great way to pick up fishing info. and you can meet some new fishing buddies at the same time.
Good luck, Don images/icons/smile.gif

Hyw 6 to tillamook, turn south, at the bridge over the Trask park somewhere and walk down the north side of the river about 60 yards . You are now at the pig pen hole. Fish from the small beach. Bobber and eggs/shrimp. Start high at the branch, fish along the rip rap, down to the point and the depression in the far bank. Good hole...remember, every chinook that goes up the river must swim through this hole. 3 hrs before low slack and the first 3 hrs of the flood. My best day was 1982 and I landed 17 by 11:00.......13 the day before and 9 the day after.
