Fished Eagle Fern in the afternoon, nobody was hooking anything that I talked to or saw. Managed to finally land a nice buck around 6pm on a black blade spinner, but he was the only taker. Guy next to me got a big buck on eggs right around the same time, but it was darker.

How does one get to the mouth of Eagle Creek where it flows into the Clackamas? Driving instructions would be most appreciated. images/icons/smile.gif

i can imagine that on the weekends it's the same combat fishing it usually is at the mouth. probably about 20 folks lined up on the bank, everyone trying to get the upstream spots.
how packed is it during the weekdays? i was thinking of taking a few, well-deserved days off in a week or two and getting into some fish.

It's not as bad on the weekdays as the weekends, but the company is something else to contend with. Seems like all the low lifes from "Incestacada" show up on the weekdays to snag for Eagle Creek coho. Last weekend wasn't too bad people wise. I saw probably 8-9 DB's on the Barton to Carver drift each day. Plenty of room to fish.
Don't remember all the road names right off the top of my head, but to get to Bonnie Lure you go East on 224 past Barton. Right around where 211 joins up, there is a turn on your right. If you miss the first one you can hit it again, because it just does a short loop. I forget the name of that road off of 224, but from the loop you go down Dowty Rd to the park. That's some basic directions. I haven't been there for a while so I don't know how well everything is marked. Not too hard a drive once you've done it a time or two. Just make sure not to leave anything in your car. Take all your valuables with you. Also make sure you are parked off the road and not on someone's property. You will be towed. Goes without saying that Smokey is down there in full force, so be extra legal. Best of luck out there.

Actually Boyhunter, most of the lowlife loser snaggers aren't from around here. They come from all over and come snag in "our" little creek. I've lived out here for just over 20 years and don't recognize most of the people down there. Maybe they come from crackamyass! Who knows. It's no local secret about the ability to snag fish here. Even the welfare fisherman from the city have phones to call and tell there other loser friends where to go. If you see a snagger follow them when they leave. I'll bet you a GLoomis they take a left on 224 headed towards the city of Clackamas. Not that all the people out here are pure, but we don't sell our sisters on the streets. We MARRY them.
Fishformore:take 205 to the Hwy 224 Clackamas Estacada exit. Head towards Estacada. Pass Barton store. You will come to a flashing yellow light where a gas station/store is on your left. Turn right there. Take a left on Dowty road. Cross the bridge and park where you can get ALL 4 tires off the road. Hike down the trail and fish the Clack near the mouth.
Good luck.

I tried the creek below Eagle Fern this afternoon - first time I ever fished that section. I saw fish caught (biters) and a fair amount of foul hooked but they were released. I had one good bite but it wrapped me up.

fished the mouth thursday. 35 on, 20 landed, 5 foul hooked, 3 to take home. Yeeee hawwwww. Pretty fun, and the guys I stepped between were very nice to let me fish with them as I was a late arrival. They even showed me where and what they were doing. The guy on my left was a first timer to fish the Coho. He was getting frustrated so I spent 5 minutes with him getting him set up when no one else would. Pink corkies and yarn with Mikes shrimp oil. His first cast after a little advise,,Whamoooooooo... fish on. After He broke off 2 fish I asked about his main line. 10#? Told him to expect to break off 99% of the fish or follow all the ones he hooked to the mouth of the Clack. Water was swift and the fish were tough.
Sorry you could not go today. Try tomorrow.

Went back at it on Eagle Creek (by the falls). Started poorly, finished good.
There is a God. While tying on a new rig (about 1/2 hour into fishing tops) with the rod tucked under my arm I somehow managed to flip the spool lock on my Abu Garcia Ambassadar 521 XLT reel. Out went the spool and the lock (two separate pieces) into the drink. The spool was in about 2 1/2 feet of water but was easy to find since I could follow the line. The spool lock was another matter. Completely black. My heart sunk. Without that - I was through. I found a couple of beer bottles fragments. In desperation I reached down where I thought it was and behold, I got it images/icons/blush.gif. I lost about 45 minutes fishing with this debacle.
The good news is that I did not loose my rock and back to fishing. I finally caught one. The first was a small buck that had an adipose fin - but it was a fish. The second was a nice buck, about 4-5 lbs (24") and in good shape. I lost two others - both bigger. One was beautifully bright.
It can be done. I was using a flame orange corky - small, with orange yarn (not a lot). Just enough weight to make a decent cast but still make a drift. Smelly jelly shrimp oil.
I saw a few other fish caught. The bite seemed between 8:30 and 10:00 a.m. People were obeying the rules, releasing fowl hooked fish and checking fins. (I was surprised to see unclipped fish).
Sorry for the rambling. This modest catch is an accomplishment. I have to admit I was tentative to go to Eagle Creek. But there are a lot of fish in good shape, they do bite and they are fun to catch. images/icons/smile.gif

Fished the creek today. I managed to hook a whopping zero fish today, but my buddy managed a 10# hen and a 15# buck (both stil in good shape) so the trip was worthwhile. The fish stopped going by us around 1, as that's about the same time he got the buck. We drove up to the concrete bridge and didn't see any fish hooked, or even in the pool itself. The highest concentration of cars( and I assume fish) were from 1 'o clock rock to the bottom end of the park. This makes sense since a huge push of fish went thru on Friday around 10 am.
Tight lines,

Fished the Creek on Saturday. Got to my favorite spot at 5:50. only one rig on the road down by the ladder. Proceeded up river a ways to my favorite spot. Began fishing around 7:10 when I could start to see. Saw a few fish roll. Around 7:30 got my first fish in. 10# hen very bright. Then began the slaughter. Pop showed up just about 7:40 to witness this fish hooking clinic.
Hooked into a huge buck that took me down stream and wrapped a rock. It put on quite a show but broke off. Another polite fisher joined up for the slaughter. Not long after I hooked another huge buck that took about 7 minutes to get in. By huge I mean 18#'s at least! Got the carcus to prove it and the filets to match. Final fish kept was a buck of 12#'s that was absolutely chrome.
In all, close to 100 fish on 60 landed 30 fair hooked. Sorry boys, snagging will happen when there are 300 to 400 fish in front of you and more just pouring through the hole.
Best part of the day was... no one else tried to fish this place with us until 2:00pm'! I could not believe this luck. Then all heck broke loose and the doughballs showed up. Suddenly a quiet little hole became idiot central. Courtesy went out the window with these jerks. One dude with a fly rod moved into my spot while I was rerigging. I walked up behind him and he ignored my approach. So I just put my rod over his head and dangled my rig infront of his face. He turned around and I said excuse me sir can I have my spot back. He moved when I gave him my "Mean looking Spooled impursonation". Then he stood right on my shoulder where the other polite fisher was. I looked back and he was just standing there shaking his head. I loudly said, get back up here to your spot bud. This guy will gladly step aside won't you? He moved quickly to the right. Right in front of others that told him to bugger off too. Jerk, if you are reading this....get a life and practice safe boating in your back yard pool. Then learn how to catch a fish. By the way he did not land a single fish. images/icons/shocked.gif
Stayed until dark. Dreamed about the day all night. Woke up setting the hook several times during the night. images/icons/smile.gif What a day.
Went back Sunday afternoon and only saw a few fish. Foul hooked onlhy a few and went back home. Got plenty of fish in the freezer. Time for Tillamook nookies. images/icons/wink.gif
