Going to take a drive up to Anglers Workshop one of these days to pick up some stuff for a couple of new rods and need suggestions.
7' in the 30/40 lb class. Standard guides, NOT rollers, hd seat.
Any help in selecting parts is appreciated. These will be Albacore, Dorado, small Yellowfin rods.
Thanks for your time.

Calstar 670, Perfection chrome/stainless steel guides, carbide tip, triple wrapped, D thread, Flexcoat High-Build epoxy for the windings. This makes a perfect 30/40# rod.
You mentioned 7', but for jig casting the Calstar 700M (8') is a great blank. Finish it with a cork tape grip and no reel seat.
Also see the new Rod Building forum on Ifish.

I know you said NOT rollers, but those aftco ultralight rollers are the shizzle for rizzle. Easier on the line and WAY tougher than any SiC or other ceramic lined guide.
For 30 I go with a good fuji graphite seat, maybe DPSH heavy class. For 40 I go aluminum aftco.

I've built a few of the Seeker 665's which is the same rod as the 670, just 6 1/2 feet. I use the perfection aluminum reel seats on them and Pac Bay Turbo Blue Halo Boat guides and spiral wrap them - we use them for trolling for albacore. Calstar will make a simular rated rod. The only difference is the Calstar will be a little stiffer - bend them both while you are there and decide which one you like.
Come join the party in the Rod & Tackle Building Forum - some guys have put up some real pretty gear

:yeahthat: I am partial to the 7' rods, so I build the 670's and the 670H. The 670H is rated 30-80, so it is a little heavier, but nice 40-50# set-up. The 670 is rate 30-50# and is perfect 40# set-up. I use Fuji boat guides, but the pac bay I assume is just as good.....
I use the aftco aluminum real seats..... graphite would be fine, but I feel if your going to spend that much to build a rod, what's and extra $20.00? I use ARS3 aftco.... gimbal but is total choice.... I put them on, but often question why..... I never use a harness with this sized rod....:twocents:

If you don't mind E-glass, mudhole has some blanks to your specs for under $20 each. Thats a bargain
