The subject came up in the 'keeping my wife interested' thread. Bar none the biggest problem for the female fisher besides cold/wet is the lack of facilities. They have a floating head at the Ghost hole and a few lakes but for the most part you're out of luck. She doesn't want to insist on a trip to the dock and miss the bite. My partner just doesn't drink very much all day and uses the bucket if she has to.
Guys don't worry about this too much for obvious reasons. We don't have to undress to solve the problem. A plastic jug and go.
So ladies, what do you need to have in the boat to be comfortable. I would think toilet paper and a bucket would be the minimum but tell us what you think.
We want to help, really

I would think the minimum is a STURDY bucket.
I fish with a gal who was filling up the bucket on her husband's boat when the plastic bucket separated and sent her to the deck of the boat. Of course, the deck was covered in the contents of the bucket when she landed. "Oh the humanity!"
Being a true outdoorsperson, she still insists on using the bucket in my boat even though I've got a porta potty in the cabin. What a gal!

Pilar,
How thoughtful of you to start a whole thread on this topic! images/icons/grin.gif (perv!) images/icons/grin.gif
I think this may be strictly personal preference for women. We have a marine toilet aboard our boat. However, when I go out in my neighbors boat, I prefer the coffee can. It's more "discreet" than a say, a five gallon bucket. Most women don't want to expose parts to strangers.
Guys, turn your backs! Don't read this part!
Ladies, get on your knees in between the seats, (or wherever you get the most privacy,) slide your drawers down, place the can in the appropriate position and go.
Hope I wasn't too graphic. I have been able to use this method while fishing with no one ever noticing.

Aunty M, stick with thoughtful. My partner is awesome in the boat and does her best to be 'one of the guys'. But this one thing is a deal buster for her. No biggy on the ocean, since there are often no boats around. Now that fall is here we are all fishing in close quarters in the bays and tidewater rivers.
Good suggestion on the coffee can, I'll pass it on to Cat and see if it works for her.

Pilar...my other half likes to use something similar to a half gallon plastic milk jug...cut to perfection (?) and prefers the "AuntieM" position. images/icons/shocked.gif

What I and my female fishers have that works good is: a two-gallon plastic bucket (no sharp edges) and a cheap poncho. No problem with flashing anyone. Easy to get dressed again under the poncho. images/icons/wink.gif

Another way is the portable unit in an open boat, just slide over to the other "middle chair", and slide back again. I've also seen the ladies throw a tarp over themselves. The rain poncho is an excellent idea.
