I've got an older loomis rod with a loose reel seat. They don't make this rod anymore and I want to be able to keep fishing with it. Is there a way to repair a loose reel seat? It's not totally broken loose, but I can feel it shift when I'm reeling or when the rod is under a "fish" load...

take it to a good shop. they will prob. take the cork off, re seat the reel seat and put a new cork handle on it.

Is the seat loose on the rod or is your reel shifting in the seat?? Sometimes its repairable but the butt section of the rod has to be stripped of guides and top cork to do a proper job and replace the seat itself! Thats if the seat will come loose from the blank without damaging it?

The seat is loose- I can feel it shift where it meets the butt cork. I may check with some custom builders in the area and see if they do repair work and can do this. I really don't want to lose this rod.

It's an easy repair, but it will take a little work....

Take a dremmel and cut off the old seat. remove the cork..... BE CAREFUL NOT TO GOUGE THE BLANK!!!

The new seat can be put on by using drywall fiber mess tape and U-40 Rodbond to make arbors just the right size..... slide on the new reel seat aligned properly and allow it to harden overnight. The next step is to repair the handle..... if you can't do cork you can do a cork wrap with shrinkwrap handle material.... you could do a cord wrap, or you can any other options for handles.....

Good luck!

I've fixed these before by getting a syringe and a package of epoxy.
Mix the epoxy and then fill the syringe. Then all you have to do is stick the needle thru the cork and angle it under the ends of the reelseat. 90% of the time this is all that's needed. The other 10% of the time you will need to drill a small hole in the reelseat somewhere close to the middle and shoot some in there.

I've also repaired them by cutting the rod in half right at the front of the reelseat and then repairing/replacing the reelseat and then using a dowel, glueing it all back together again.

you can get some devcon 30 min. epoxy at walmart $1.98 thats what i use for my handles , drill a couple of small holes on the reelseat make sure you don't hit the blank , with a syringe put some epoxy into the holes then put tape over the holes . should be good to fish the next day... hope this helps.
