Does anyone know what the difference between hypalon and eva foam? Which one is hard?

I've used synthetic grips (RB-13,14) from PacBay.
They were a very firm (closed cell) product and described as EVA.

I have an old LCI factory rod that has what I think was called Hypalon.
The LCI grip is softer and the cells are larger and open.

Couple of thoughts on installing EVA :
Measure the precise length of the grip before installing and jot it down.
During install the grip gets pushed, pulled, etc and it is important to get the grip back to its normal length before setting it aside for drying.

Before I figured this out, I had one pull back from the reelseat about 1/4"
What a bearcat to fix that !

I used epoxy, some use a special lubricant...just don't stop once you start.
It's a "one-fell-swoop" number when installing these grips.

If using epoxy, tape-protect the leading edge of the grip.
If you're lucky the grip will match up with your blank but sometimes reaming is needed and that takes some patience.

I driftfished with EVA grips for years and got to prefer it over cork.
Back to cork now.

Heat the EVA in the micro for about a minute and a half, then pour denatured alchohol down the hole before you install. If you do this you can get the EVA down just aboout any size blank in one quick motion. Just my :twocents:

EVA is hard, Hypolon is spongy. Both make good grips, but Hypolon is more durable and resistant to fuel and oil. Hope that helps

I was wondering because I have a north x northwest small plug ros that has a black handle. I can slightly dig my thumbnail into it, and I was wondering what type it was. I like the handle and it seems to keep my hand warm, maybe just in my mind. But it does have good feel and I can hang onto it even if my hands are slimed by a fish.
