I have a old plug rod that needs new cork but i would like to put a longer handle than whats on there now is this do able.

You can put any length cork on there you want. Strip the rod down and start all over with a bare blank.

strip off the cork on the lower part of the handlle and head to the old rod graveyard or the thrift store and find one that you can slip into the butt section of your old rod ...
Epoxy it in place and stand vertical when setting ...
Trim to length and add your cork rings and butt cap ...
