I know that you can't improve on the factory finish that comes on an Alvin wobbler. I was going through some of my stuff and I have a couple of Alvins that are looking pretty nasty. Some have some serious water spotting and some of the brass/copper ones are getting pretty tarnished. What do you use to clean them. Just a good quality metal or jewelry polish? Any suggestions?

I don't know if one of those barely gritty toothpaste / tooth polish products will do the trick.

One of the ways to test the grit on a polish or liquid rubbing/polishing compound is to put a little on your finger nail. Then, rub it with another finger nail (other hand). You'll be able to feel the difference in different polishes.

Good Luck

Avoid anything with grit or you'll scratch the finish ... try soap and water, WD 40 or silver polish. I use a polish with a name I can't remember right now that does well on the silver, but the brass is another story ... I can't seem to polish it without scratching it.

Semichrome or Brasso have always worked for me.

I think the gold or brass finish on an Alvin is so thin, you would NOT want to use any type of abrasive cleaner...even Brasso. My best advice is to soak it in WD-40 and rub very gently. Too much elbow grease and you will be right down to a nickel finish on your gold wobbler.

What is the true finish made of on "gold" spinner blades and wobblers. Surely, it can't really be gold...or they would cost a mint. The CV Blades claim to have a 14kt. finish images/icons/confused.gif Even electroplate would be unaffordable. images/icons/confused.gif

I use Megular's Mirror Glaze - All Metal Polish. It shines them up really well and won't scratch the finish. I purchased it at an auto parts store.

I use a product that I keep in the boat for cleaning up metal sufaces, Nevr Dull. You can find it at auto and marine stores. It is a blue can of wadding with some polish in it. Anyway, I used it to clean up the brass on the wobblers last week and it worked great. images/icons/grin.gif

i'm with tilla, the never dull seems to work pretty good, used it quite a bit and dosen't seem to take the finish off, just makes it nice and bright just like it was before.

To remove tarnish I use a jewelers cloth -- I'm not sure what's on it but it does remove minor tarnish.

However. we try to prevent tarnish by spraying the wobblers with WD40 when we're done fishing; then when we get home soaking them is a dish of hot soapy water then lightly brushing; drying with a rag to prevent water spots. Buff with the jewlers cloth and they're ready for their next outing.
