Before I get a db, are they like other row boats in regard to rowing? whats the down side to a db? are they easy to row, say like in a lake setting with no current.never been in one but they seem so versatile...I gots to have one! I can row a regular row boat no problem. give me a db and then look out deschutes!!!

Painter-
I have had a driftboat for 10 years and have fished everywhere from T-bay (carefully) to small lakes. I have a long-shaft 8 horse kicker on it and can go most anywhere. It is great because it has such a wide flat bottom making it very stable and tall sides to keep the water out. Not too good when it's real windy though.....too much boat above the water that acts like a sail.

Make sure you get lots of practice and confidence before you tackle places like the
deschutes or klickatat. If you want ride and
oar one prior to purchase, send me an e-mail.
(Rnewton4@earthlink.net). It's a very good
time of year images/icons/grin.gif .
Don't forget to search the past articles and the archives on choosing and using drift boats ... there has been some really good advice on both subjects!

Downside - definitely wind - hard to control in a heavy wind. because of the flat bottom, some say they dont track well (but thats why you get 'em right?). Speed is also limited if you care about that.
Upside: Its the only thing you can use to fish some rivers. very versatile. can float in 2 inches of water... like someone said - check the archives and you'll find a hundred more reasons.
Another piece of advice - if your looking at new boats - figure $500-1000 for accessories and add ons. with used boats many times the seller will throw most in.
