I have been here for a little while and have made a few posts here and there so I figure I should kinda formally introduce myself.
You can call me Slow Roll or Paul it don't matter a lick to me. It does if you lick me but that's a whole different story there. images/icons/grin.gif
I have been here in OR (I'm a Montana Import)for a few years but have not yet had the pleasure of fishing for salmon. I am going to try and fix that this weekend.
I am heading out to Tillamook Bay with my girlfriend this sunday to try and hook into a salmon or two. We will be on foot and probably on the south jetty.
I am going to try some herring and see how we do with that.
Anyone have any words of advice on this. I would like to catch one but I hear that the odds of that are pretty slim for a banker.

Hey Paul, I'm a Montana boy too. We moved here when I was young, but I go back a lot to fish and sightsee the Northern Rockies (Glacier and Bob Marshall). What part of MT you from?

Unless the ocean settles down, you probably won't enjoy the breakers piling over parts of the jetties. You might think about fishing the other end of the bay ... tide water areas ... with bobber and eggs.
Here's my advice. It's free, so take it for what it's worth. Leave the rod at home, but go check out tide water fishing areas ... hunt them down on the Trask ... see what people are using, ask questions, observe ... if you don't have a rod, folks will be much more talkative ... see where people are parked, then figure out how they got to the river ... make an exploration out of it. There were breakers running over the outer ends of the jetties today and not even the boat fishers did well.

Pete,
I love that technique! It's a great way to meet people and get advice. You're right, fisherman (people in general) are more likely to share some of their expertise (whether they have it or not), when you don't look like you're about infringe upon their personal territory [with fishing rod in hand].

Welcome Paul,
Pete offered some great advice, you'll enjoy the tide water bobber fishing more then the slippery rocks off the jetty. And the bobber fishing off the bank will be more productive. Whenever I'm thinking on fishing a new location, an explorative drive to check access, techniques and productive locations is always time well spent. Of course once you get over there you'll want to fish. images/icons/wink.gif I'd still bring a rod at least to wet a line, never know what you'll witness and you'd hate to be left out of the fun.
Welcome to the board and good luck,
Gregg

Hey guys thanks for the advice and the welcome. Went and did a little exploring this weekend and have a good idea as to what I am facing now. I dunked a line for awhile but mostly enjoyed the scenery.
Hey Cagey, I go fishin' cause my grilfriend likes to go too and she is pretty good at it too. images/icons/grin.gif She just lights right up when she hooks up. It is a blast to watch her get all excited about it.
Hello RT, I am from Billings. Don't hold it against me ok? images/icons/rolleyes.gif Drop me a line sometime and we can B.S. if ya want.
Pete, your advice was most helpful. It is amazing how people love to tell you what they are doing if you act like a complete yokel. images/icons/wink.gif I play the dumb act well. images/icons/grin.gif
Or maybe that isn't an act............ images/icons/tongue.gif
