Hi everyone, hows the fishing?

I might be able to get out for a few hours this afternoon or maybe tomarrow. Im dying to catch some silvers. Whats the best bet gonna be, drifting gear/pitching spinners on the Sandy, or stalking coho with tiny jigs and flies up on Eagle Creek? I really want to fish the creek, I love going in-between holes with my little Lami and tossing little flies and jigs at fish holding in fast water. What a kick in the pants to see a big silver chase a wolly bugger right to the bank! Im not sure about the crowds though, I wont be able to get out until the afternoon. I usually fish up above the second fish ladder, and I hear that recent roadwork has made parking roadside very difficult and that landowners arent as friendly to fishermen as they used to be, not that I can blame them. Any tips on where to go would be really appriciated. This might be the only day or two of fishing I get this season.

Thanks in advance!

SRF,
I see you live in Troutdale. If I were you i would drive up to Dabney park and fish spinners and eggs in some of those holes. The coho and chinooks both are shooting thru.
Hey im glad to finally find someone that focuses on ths Sandy! I would love to chat with you some time about your experiences on the Sandy as I too fish that river a lot.Did you ever fish above Marmot dam when they used to let all the fish go up there? I sure did. Ive been fishing the Sandy for about 24 years. I had some (most) of my very best and memorable fishing experiences up there usually all alone in late spring and all thru the summers. Lets talk.

Hey friendly fisherman,

Thanks for your reply, I do believe I will try the Sandy this afternoon if my wife ever gets home to take over with the kids. To answer your questions, I was weaned on the upper Sandy. Caught my first winter steelie and my first springer down below the Ivy Bear, used to have friends that lived on Summertime Drive. I spent all of my high school years skipping class to fish winters on the upper Sandy and Summers on the salmon. I used to know those rivers like the back of my hand. I loved fishing the Salmon in October. The crowds are long gone and focusing on coho, in the meanwhile I would be getting ten fish a day or better fishing late summers up behing the Golf Course and down at wildwood. Too bad its all closed now, I would love to be up there now. Since they closed it Ive really gotten into springer fishing from Dodge to Marmot. I do OK, but still catch about five to one in favor of summer steelhead on the lower river. Ive fished down at Lewis and Clark and Dabney a few times, Ive been unimpressed so far. More people than fish most of the time, and with limited time to get out these days I tend to shy away from the "ify" spots. Maybe Ill give them a second chance as far as silvers this year. Thanks again for the reply!
