Anybody been combat fishing at the Salmon River outside Lincoln City?

Looking for a good bankie trip next Wednesday so I am always open to better suggestions too!

I'm going at 0-dark thirty in the morning, I'll post how I do. The pressure always slacks off here on the opening weekend of deer season, there have been a lot of fish since the middle of August, but, of course, the bite has been on and off.

Took a bright 30-lb buck from the Salmon River about 1 p.m. today, and saw 7-8 other fish taken. I was fishing near the Hwy 101 bridge, and didn't get there until about 9a.m., but the crowd seemed a little smaller than usual. If you want a good spot in the early morning, better get there by 5:30 a.m.
Although spinners have been working well there, all the fish I saw caught today were caught on corkies and yarn.

I'm suprised that the corky and yarn crowd down there even bother with the corky and yarn. Wouldn't a 2oz. weight tied about 4" below a 4/0 treble help them get their limit a little faster?

At least at Youngs bay tidewater they put a corky between the lead and treble hook.

I got to witness a snagger get pinched today. Muha Muha ha ha ha ha ha! What a moron, he had 2 fish on the bank and when the trooper shows up he and his idiot friend cut thier gear and he tries to hide the fish in the bushes. Trooper Cooper, sharp as a whip, notices this, of course, and asks to see all the tags? Well, the flagrant snagger doesn't even have a tag. Too bad the trooper didn't know what he was dealing with. He was way too nice. He didn't even check the fish for hook marks in the mouth which, by the way, were none existent. They could really rack up some fines with some quality undercover serveylance (sp?). I am sick of those idiots stirring up the fish so they won't even bite.

Take a look at the Salmon River report from 9-28. You may be surprised.
