Just about the last fly you will ever fish with for steelhead or salmon if you tie and fish them right. I tie just about nothing but anymore, changing the colors and configuration depending on the species I am after. My Avitar shows a 67# ling I caught in Alaska on an 8 weight fly rod with a double tube fly. One I designed for Giant Lahontans in Washington that just so happened to look very similar to the candlefish slicks I ran into up there. I've caught Halibut, Chinook, rockfish, tom cod and just about any fish this fly has been in front of.
If you really want to learn about these flies and get a great Spey casting lesson call Brian Silvey and book a float with him on the Sandy. I learned more fishing with Brian in one day than years of fishing on my own could have accomplished. I try and take at least one trip a year with him and I am not a pay for guide kind of guy. I will see if I have any photos of the ones I have tied.......... and some fish caught with them.
The following should have pictures of my Winter Steelhead pattern/ Summer Steelhead/ and Fall Chinook pattern plus a few fish. Hope this works...........

Hey Tube,
Is pic #4 a Karluk King? I've fished Kodiak in the fall for Silvers but would like to try it earlier in the year for kings sometime.

Yes this is a Karluk King........I caught him and others on the Chartruse Tube fly pictured above as well as Sockeye and a ton of steelhead that day. Wow what a river to fish on that was, and the bears........whew quite the experience. Have you fished the Karluk many times? My understanding is that there is a lodge there now. Do you have any info on that??

Didn't mean to hyjack-
Long shanks the real trick to using these flies is how you tie them on so they swim properly and swim they do and this I am sure is why Brian is having them packaged with leader now. These buggers look like snakes swimming in the water it is really uncanny. If you are interested send me a PM and I can give you more info..........

I know the Karluk is controlled by the native corporation. Haven't heard of lodges located right on the river.
Here's one of my first tandem tube efforts. It hooked a winter steelhead (but I lost it) the first time out.

Sweet photo man.............. the fly is looking good.
Nice job on the dumbbells....those ride a little better in the water sometimes over the cone heads. Nice setting for the pix.......
Keep it up.
Brian deserves a lot of credit for developing such a great fly. I keep expecting to see him in the Innovative Tying section of Northwest Flyfishing.

Can you buy these, or do you have to tie them? They look great! I would love to get some, or tie a few.
