Anyone out there fish Fall River? I've fished it a lot over the last 10 years but I've never been too successful when I target the lunkers in the really deep hole just above the hatchery. I had one good night several years ago with an olive leach pattern. I'll be out there this weekend and I'd sure like to catch a few. Anyone got any tips?

I've fished it a few times. I've always had the most success tight-line nymphing through the holes near the hatchery. Nothing special, any generic nymph 14-16 will work, you just need to get it down (I like using a size 8 cased caddis with a tungsten beadhead---I catch a surprising number of fish on that fly as well) and I'll usually start out with either a prince or zug bug as the dropper. That's where I've had the most success catching those larger fish.
make sure you have some baetis cripples size 18 or so if a BWO hatch (there's usually a size 16-18 and a smaller 22 that come off at the same time this time of year) comes off and tiny midges always work ok.
anyway, that's about the extent that I know about that river since I don't fish it all that often (it's a bit of a drive from Portland).
good luck and take pictures...I'm sure everyone loves pictures...

oh, one more thing, I almost forgot...sometimes you've gotta muscle those big boys out of an undercut or out from a log jam, so be prepared for that sicne it's usually the first place they head...
