Its been 20 years or so since I've been fly fishing in the Portland area. Used to fish the Upper Deschutes, above Craine Prairie, North Santiam, Lower Deschutes, Salmon River, and a lot of small streams for native fish and brookies. I like to fish a 2 wt rod so that small fish even seem like trophies. Anyway, I hear that things have gotten a lot more crowded since then. Any good stream fishing close to Portland in the summer?

Since its pretty much catch and release...which is fine with me...is it OK to fish steelhead streams for trout before the opener if it is open to steelhead and salmon? Most of the area streams get so low and warm in he summer. I kinda like the idea of fishing before the general late season opener. :argue:

Hey Old Salt. I am always looking for guys to fish with. I live in Molalla. I recently sold my NR boat and i have gotten into fly fishing this past year. If your looking for some places to fish, i could take you with me to some private places that are very close to where we live. Let me know...the trout fishing has really slowed with the colder weather, but you can still catch them. If your interested at all let me know.

Hey, thanks for the offer! I sent you a PM.

Anyone else looking for fly fishing associates, feel free to let me know. My best fishing buddy has become too immobile to fish anymore. Known him for 30 years and he got me into fly fishing. I was about 20 at the time I met him. You can do the math. I like to fish mostly dries and emerger patterns. Emergers are my favorite, as they are easy to tie and very productive. Cheap materials too compared to the higher quality necks necessary for dry flies. Trout cant seem to resist an emerger that is raising to the surface.

I've probably forgotten more about fishing than I currently know. Used to be my main reason for living. Now it has to compete with a wife and kids.

I could be tempted to do some fishing too. I'm allergic to tobacco smoke and prefer to get away from the hordes & noxious fumes.

I'm located near Carver, just a couple miles off the Clackamas River.

Make It A Great New Year!

If you like SRC,s and Resident cuts cant beat Gales Creek for its proximity to portland. I have some very good acess so send me a PM. Sadly it does not open until the 4th week of april or march i cant remember right now. I would be happy to show you around my local stream it never gets any fly fishing preshure around me except for what i do with my 6ft 4wt. Lots of red necks violateing fishing regs by useing bait but they never wade to the good spots.
