Guys, I hate to rain on your parade, but PLEASE keep postings about the world affairs to one or two topics.
I am facing huge server loads on ifish. I find that some of the graphics are indeed entertaining, but as I face big and expensive business decisions on what to do to handle server load, plus every growing challenge of trying to find fishing info mixed in with it, that we should keep it to one or two posts, however long they may become.
Thanks for trying to comply.
These are difficult times, and I know we all need an outlet.

Jennie,
I assume that reprimand was directed at me. Sorry. Won't happen again. You might consider purging pictures from your server after 4 weeks. I doubt that ifish folks would have a problem with that. images/icons/smile.gif

Jennie,
Is there a way that we can delete pics which we've uploaded. One time I accidentally uploaded the same pic twice and could have deleted one if I knew how.
Thanks
Johnny Mac

Jenny, not that the chemistry isnt just right here, but regarding the posts that arent fishing related and trying to climb through them...how about making a new forum for the world affairs only? Maybe just a temporary thing until it starts to calm down? Maybe it already has started to? Idunno, just throwing that out there. images/icons/smile.gif

Vinny and others;
Go to your post in a thread that you would like to edit - be it changing or taking out words or pictures. Click on the pencil/pad on the right side of the icon bar at the top of your post. This brings your message box back up again. You then can delete or change words, or just highlight and delete the picture URL to take that out. Then click below on the "edit post" rectangle and your post will reappear without the picture in it. >>>
However, unlike formerly you can no longer delete your entire post (as if it weren't ever there). This is because those that started a thread and then deleted their original post took the entire thread out - deleting the whole thread from the BB. This would cause an understandable uproar from many members, especially if it was a long and significant thread. Now, if you don't want anything said in a post just leave only a ' . ' (period) in the message box and click on 'edit post', and that takes care of the matter. >>>
Another way to do this if you do want your entire post, including your moniker etc., to disappear altogether you can contact one of the moderators that can and may do that for you. >>>
As for the idea of deleting old pics or posts over a couple months old, I think with the amount of daily posting going on here that it's become time to consider either doing that or transfering them into some kind of "holding page" for a restricted period of time (maybe another month?); and those wanting to review/retrieve them can do so. Then they are deleted off the site altogether? I used to do this on the old DB, but with the volume now it would take all 4 moderators to take turns at thinning out the 'dead grass', so to speak. Just a solution idea. images/icons/smile.gif

Jen you need to delete most of the pics your carrying on the picture upload area. I just viewed how many you have...you can't support that kind of load cheaply. Its nice to have the pics but that is what is burying you...
To edit the pics with this perl script you need to
Open image.doo and remove the whole line, and delete the corresponding pic from your up directory...
Kind of a pain...There are some good image upload managing scripts available....gulp...
They get pretty spendy. I have a cheap version for $29 bucks or you can go with the $199 version that has more features.
Drop me a icq and I can chat with you about it if you want.

Having a business that is growing is a good problem to have. If it pays, you have to consider increasing capacity rather than quash the growth. Fly Jennie, fly!

I can certainly live without pictures of all the nice fish that everyone else catches ! ! images/icons/frown.gif And pictures of everyone's big expensive boat ... and ... I say yes dump all the graphics that are over a WEEK old ! That's where all the "bytes" are ...
ah, the wonders of trying to make $$$$$$ off the Internet ... what a tangled WEB we weave!
