Ok, here's my question? I am looking for someplace that I can go jetty fishing. I am not familiar with the coast except for going bumming around Seaside and CannonBeach.
I know little about Jetty Fishing, as a matter of fact I know pretty much nil about it. I figure it can't be too much different than the techniques used for Walleye fishing. Got many pounds of lead donation experience in that catagory. images/icons/grin.gif
I don't have a boat at this point in time so I will be hoofin' it. I have all the tackle and then some, just need to find someplace to donate some lead and mabye catch a few sea bass or ling cod in the process. images/icons/smile.gif

The jetty at Barview park near Garibaldi will be productive and a fairly easy hike. You will find rockfish there. The fish move around so you should too.
For salmon try the North jetty at Ilwaco. Use a bobber and a whole herring.
Also the Nehalem jetty south side is good for salmon if you don't mind rude boaters.

Being one of those "rude boaters" at the Nehalem Jaws 2 or 3 days a week (sometimes more)in the fall I'll give you a little tip Slow Roll.
Most of the guys out there are great to fish with and are pretty darn good at clearing you a path when you need one. Sure there is some knuckleheads there just like any other place one might fish however as a rule most will try there best to give whoever needs it some room.
The problem with the Nehalem Jaws is there isnt a whole lot of fishing room and a whole heck of alot of boats tryin to fit in it. 90% of the fishing takes place right along the south jetty because thats the path the fish seem to take.
Because of the boat traffic its important for someone trolling to use enough weight to get there lines deep fast and keep them close to their boat. Anyone trying to fish a 8 or 9 foot tide swing using 6 or 8 oz's of weight is either going to tangle with everyone out there or isnt going to have his bait where the fish are.
There seems to be a mind set among bank anglers that you've got to cast your offering as far as possible to catch fish and thats where we boats become "rude boaters". With the right rod I could cast a rig far enough to complety block boat traffic at the Nehalem and I swear thats what some try to do. Had a bank angler glare at me in disgust last weekend and he had a full 30 yards of room to put his bait in the water. Guess what? Thats more room than I had between me and 10 other boats out there.
My point is keep your gear close to the jetty because thats where most of the fish are passing anyways. If you get a fish on I guarantee you most of the "rude boaters" will pull their lines and go out of their way to give you all the room you need to land your fish.
Good Fishin to you and Catch a big one...

Thanks for the advice guys any help is always appreciated.
You'll probably know me if ya see me. I'll be the one who gets so excited if he catches a chrome that he falls in the drink after it.
So if I do go in, net the fish then me. I promise I'll share.
