Today I had the privelage to be able to fish the N Fork Lewis below the meat hole with Thumper. Thumper is a great guy and knows that river like the back of his hand. I was able to wash off my funk from the last trip with RT and spooled and went 5-7 with several other missed bites. 2 were nates but I put 3 in the box.
This river is absolutely loaded with fish, there were groups of from 5-30 fish in the tailouts of almost every drift from the meathole to the island. If this is just the beginning of the run I shudder to think of what the future has in store.
If anyone hast the opportunity to fish with Thumper, I'd highly recommend it. He is a great guy and very knowledgable fisherman.
Thanks again Jack, I had a blast.

Thinking about floating Saturday or Sunday. Is there a relatively short drift where I can be back in Portland by 3:30, if I put in at dark? I'm assuming everyone is dropping in at Johnson Ck. (across from hatchery?), and taking out at the golf course. I've only fished from the bank and usually do o.k, so I'm not real sure about the drift. Thanks for the input.

Chris,
I would suggest you put in at the Hatchery, & take out @ the Golf Course. Both Launch and Take-Out are on the same side of the river, so it will make for an easy Shuttle. I have done this float many times, and there are 4-5 great holes to fish, and you can get back home by your 3:30 time no prob.
Good Luck images/icons/grin.gif images/icons/rolleyes.gif images/icons/grin.gif

Great job Ryan and Thumper. Ryan, save some room on that tag for the Flotilla. images/icons/grin.gif I'll be floating it tommorow with a client and his son.

Well, here's the hard part......Ryan had 7 fish, while I had one. And I was using the fancy eggs...........what Ryan doesn't know is that when I hooked the one, I had stolen a blob of his eggs. Hmmm. Tell us your secret Ramstrong.

Now Jack, I thought we weren't going to mention anything about the eggs. But since the cat's out of the bag.
On my last float with RT, I asked him for some pointers and he gave me some secrets on egg curing that he hasn't shared with anyone here yet. This may make him mad and not want to fish with me anymore but you guys need to know this stuff.
You need to
and as you can see by just following these simple steps I went from catching nothing on monday to hooking 7 today and having all manner of fish jump on my eggs. Hope ti works for you too.

Way to go Ryan! Cool. I told ya the other day they just weren't in the mood for your particular cure and the green yarn - somedays they will be. As for that secret, don't let me catch ya doing that again. I still have the code to edit posts in an emergency. images/icons/wink.gif . ...
Hey Thumper, you and Giz fish that river a lot. I would love to run it with you 2 guys for these silvers and learn some more about it. Keep in touch. - And another drift with Troy and Ryan. That was a blast. images/icons/smile.gif BTW, the silvers are going to be crawling all over both states pretty soon. The Clack and Cow get slightly later runs than the NF, but are due for just as big of runs! - Steve

We fished Sat and Sun from the Hatchery to the golf course. Saturday we got three nice hens and one jack. Sunday we got one hen, one buck, and one jack. The jacks are real nice size and really great on the BBQ. On Saturday it was a custom cure on the eggs, and yesterday it was procure. I had about three different cures and at least four quarts of eggs on board in my efforts to find the one those fish wanted. One of the hens was so fresh that she was still loosing scales when we boated her. Put up 1/2 gal. of eggs last night that will be ready for them next weekend! images/icons/smile.gif

I'll be back at it again this Saturday. It sure is going to suck being a weekend warrior again. Maybe we can do something like this http://www.xprt.net/~ryandsar/pictures/jetboat.jpg
that is if the blue beast doesn't get sold before then.
