I've been thinking about getting the salmon plates for my truck. I know they're supposed to split the extra money they get for habitat and parks but I haven't heard of anything coming of it. Have you?
Quick poll...
How many people have the SL plates?
Are they a good idea that's actually working?

I say give the extra cash to NW steelheaders
or some other private organization that works
on our behalf for fish. Why give the state
anymore $? Do you feel they are doing a good
job with the current funding? Unless you think the plates look so good, you just have to have them.......It just seems with the
state and national governments, you spend more and get less every year.

We got the plates when they first came out and feel good about them. Perhaps more important than the monetary contribution to conservation efforts, is that the plates are a public show of support for salmon. They also serve to heighten public awareness and keep salmon in the forefront of public conciousness.
A positive statement, like salmon plates, are important in this era when you have some policians and Klamath farmers saying that salmon don't matter and we should let them go extinct.
I recomend buying the plates AND making a donation to conservation group(s) you like best.

Doesn't the state charge twice as much for the salmon plates? Don't they only give $5.oo to salmon recovery plans. I have done the math and it equals a crock of B.S.! I heard about them when they were first offered, but I don't know, maybe they're contributing more than $5.00 now, But I'd be surprised.........

The plates cost an extra $30 every two years. The $30 goes to the Governors Watershed Enhancement Board (habit improvement) and to The Oregon State Parks. How it’s split up I don’t know. It’s just one of many different ways a person can contribute whether it’s a public or private program.
I got em' and they look great!
The wife ordered them when I bought my new truck a few months ago. My wife really does not like the tree plate and she knew I would like them. I really do have a keeper.
The Salmon plate cost less than a custom plate and kinda makes me feel like I have a custom plate and some money does go to help the resource, it is better than nothing.
By the way I have seen SL plate numbers in the 35000 # range, so lets do the math 35000x$5.00 That would be $175000. A little does go a long way every year.
