View Full Version : Clackamette report
I just got back from Clackamette and there were quite a few people lined up. I was there for about 90 minutes and didn't see anyone land a thing; however, I believe there are fish in them waters.
I went to the park to look around and cast a lure a couple times. No expectations at all. Well, I casted my lure out for about the 90th time and was looking up stream when WHAM...I got bit. It about pulled me off the rock I was standing on. I should have been paying more attention!
Anyway, I was throwing a Mepps Hot Orange Flying C at the time [anyone else have any luck with this lure?]. That was my one and only bite. I saw one fish roll and that was it.
Can't wait until those silvers start packing the Clackamas.

They'll be coming soon. I noticed they're releasing water again in the Willamette. There's actually water going over the falls now. Soon.... images/icons/grin.gif

I fished Clackamette this evening. Quite a few fish started to role right at sunset. Both larger fish and jacks. One was caught right off the southern point at the mouth. Might of been a jack. High fives were given. Not crowded at all. Pleasant.

We had dinner over on McGloughlin and decided to go down to the launch by the other park just south of the Clack. Guy nailed one about 6 this afternoon. He and the lady in the boat put on quite a show. Net out, then on his head....gave her the rod
then back to him.....darn waterscooter craft
or whatever they are called, wizing by him.
We watched the fun for 25 min. One thing after the other, fish under the boat, trolling motor pushing toward other boats, lady would then get the rod and the fun just
kept coming....we watched for 25 min before
we had to get home for the weekend call from the youngest son......Hope they got it in the boat....they are sure going to have a fish story to tell. Anybody know a couple with a white fiberglass outboard with gold
colored strip at the waterline? Sure would like to know if they got it in. images/icons/smile.gif images/icons/smile.gif images/icons/smile.gif images/icons/smile.gif images/icons/smile.gif

i was out there sunday morning on the point at clackamette park from 6am till about 10am. lots of fish rolling and the bank got very crowded by about 8am. we had several fish snagged and a few hit in the mouth, one native steelie and one coho. all were pitching spinners.
i had a fish for all of about a second. felt the hit, reeled like mad to catch up with it. it hit the surface facing me with its mouth open about the same time i went to set the hook. the spinner landed about half way between where it came up and where i was standing. to say i'm disappointed about it doesn't do justice to how i'm feeling. images/icons/frown.gif images/icons/frown.gif
i'm just going to keep telling myself it was a native.
to all those folks who are working their hatchery tags and such, could i ask a favor? could you at least fain some enthusiasm about catching yet another fish? the guy who got his keeper wasn't even interested in the fish itself, he just wanted the eggs.

Fished the confluence of the Clackamas and Willamette rivers on the Clackamette side 9-12 PM.
Saw quite a few rolling and jumping, looking to be mostly jacks.
Did not see any caught on the bank, saw one caught from a boat.
Not very crowded.

I'll be hitting River Bend for some early action on Saturday morning. I'll be on the West side of the river in brown Neoprenes and (probably) a black "Cat" hat on.
If you're coming up from downstream, bring some fish up with ya too.
