Cagey, if I make it down to Nehalem, I'll look for you. I'm torn between fishing out of Chinook for nice fat silvers or trying for some chinook at the Jaws. I'm in a black hulled Sylvan Yukon Gold Select with a 25 horse Suzuki. Do you have a trolling motor on your boat? I'd like a litte more power for my hull, but the motor I have runs like a bat out of HEL* with just me in it. It's a little under powered for fast water anchor pulling. I'm hoping that I know enough Ifishers to rescue me if my anchor gets stuck. Anyway, since we have similar hulls...I think, I was wondering about the weight of a 40 horse motor plus a trolling motor. My 6 horse troller works fine.I'd like to put a larger motor on my hull, but I have concerns about the weight on the transom...just wondering.

Hi Crabby2, i will look for you. We wont be on the water Monday until around 9am or so.
I have a 40hp Evinrude on my boat. I have a a Happy Troller trolling plate installed on my motor. It does a good job of slowing me down. I went to the trolling plate for two reasons. One is i had one befor and really liked it and two was the cost of another motor and added weight. I actually have to give the motor more throttle to get a good troll as it really slows you down. Works good in lakes also. If you decide to go the happy troller route make sure you install it yourself as it is simple to do. Marina's want your left arm to do it for you. Just make sure you run the set and release line all the way up to the drivers seat so you can set and release with out getting up. I dont know the weight difference but i think your boat would handle a 40 hp and the 6hp. I can move up and down the river a good clip with no problem. If you need any more info just email me. Hope to see you on the bay. My boat is white with dark blue striping and lettering. Cagey. images/icons/smile.gif

Thanks for the information Cagey! I'd like to get a little more power and I've been thinking about a 40 hp 4 stoke. That trolling plate makes a lot of sense with the added weight of a 4 stroke motor.
Good luck on the Nehalem! Maybe see you there.
