Yup, it's the first launch. A lot of the "flat" is 10-16 feet deep, you'll be going right along the road, with a whole bunch of pilings. Many people anchor at the hole at the Cannery and at Coyote Rock, running bobber cocktails when the currents not enough for the plugs.

Bobber fishing further up river is sometimes productive at slack tide. I always had the best luck dragging rainbow spinners on the incoming.
The movie was "once upon a notion" or something like that with paul Newman, Henry Fonda, and Richard Jeckle.

I dont know how the crabbing is but you can catch a bunch just beyond the west side of the bridge.

Think the water is around 5 to 15 ft, depending on where you are at. I ran a 19' Bayliner and did not have any problems at all. I even took my 19' Fisher 9 miles up river on high tide and no problems.

If i was going to fish from the bridge to the movie house i would pull the herring. Good Luck, cagey. images/icons/smile.gif

Sometimes a great Notion!

If there are too many boats anchored up plunking, You can go just above Coyote Rock and troll up there. Most ofthe plunkers fish the incoming tide.

The movie house? Jack Nicholson? I think the movie was Sometimes A Great Notion w/ Henry Fonda, Paul Newman et al. Filmed in Kernville (movie House) and points south and east, including Elk City (the motorcycle scene).

Chinook Bend is about 2 miles above coyote rock and has a great public launch and lots of parking for $6.00.

images/icons/rolleyes.gif I was at Siletz tidewater yesterday and again today stinkin' it up. Yesterday I saw lots of boats and 2-3 fish caght in the movie house hole. Today nobody at movie house and most people were between coyote rock and chinook bend. I saw 3-4 fish caught in that area, at least 2 on herring. Lots of fish rolling, sometimes shallow, sometimes in the deep stuff (25 ft.+) Seems that the fish hitting the docks are large mostly. images/icons/smile.gif I only fished from 7a.m till noon (only?) and didn't talk to too many dudes, and most of the incoming tide was after I left. Get after 'em

Can anyone tell me how and where to fish the lower Siletz. I am thinking of giving it a try this weekend. Is this a herring fishery or does something else work better. Also, do you need to watch the tides or does it matter.

Thanks,

TMAN

I've always preferred the slack tide, either low or high, for the best time. I personally prefer to troll herring from Siletz Moorage to the Movie house (they filmed a Jack Nicholson movie there, can't remember the name right now).

Unfortunately, in the last 2-3 years, the river has been completely full of boats anchored up running Kwikfish with the tidal current. I personally don't like that, on the weekends, you can't even troll. But, when in Rome......

If the tide is really low, both launches are not fun, but the one at Siletz Moorage is the better launch. You can't get a big (20ft+) boat in the water at Coyote Rock launch on a super low tide. Much more parking at the Moorage as well.

Good luck...It's my second favorite tidewater/bay area to troll, behind the lower Rogue. You've got a chance at a real big fish here.

Thanks for the input!

Is the Siletz moorage the first launch off Hwy 101. How deep is most of the water being fished. Have you ever tried bobber fishing eggs.
