View Full Version : Where to fish on Sat 9/8?

Hello fellow fish crazed individuals. I'm happy to report that I'm back in the game. It's not pretty but the old truck rides again and the boat still works.
The new dilemma is where to spend those pre-Ifishstock hours fishing. I can see 3 obvious choices.
1) T-Bay for crab and Chinook or Silvers.
2) Nehalem bay, same deal.
or
3) Lower Columbia river (B-10) for Silvers.
The tides are kind of weird Saturday high at 0430 and low at 1030. This may make the bar crossing at T Bay for the bubble an impossibility first thing. The CG almost always corks the bar on an outgoing tide during the fall Chinook fishery. B-10 is still going strong. What about Nehalem? How is the crabbing in T Bay and Nehalem?
Anyone in the know with recent reports please cough up what you know. Where are the rest of you fishers going to be?
Thanking you in advance.

Good question pilar. I plan on putting the crab pots in at Nehalem Bay at around 9:30 and then fishing the jaws during the incoming. I would love to hear any reports on how the fishing has been there.

When I was a Nehalem Monday it was slow, but it's a day to day fishery. But I would reccomend you leave the crabpots at home if you go to Nehalem. We put five out on Monday for one softshell and about 50 pounds of grass.
I think crabbing at T-Bay is much better, I stopped there to see if any salmon fishermen had slew them, and none I talked to had, but there were many successful crabbers, with 30-40 crabs for a few hours soak with 3-10 pots.

I haven't fished Nehalem this year, but typically this is their peak time for Chinook. As threemuch said, it's day to day (Nehalem always seems to be like that), but that's where I would go if I was going to be down there.
Good luck wherever you go.

Thanks for the info. I also had a friend who crabbed Tillamook Bay last sunday and put 56 in the boat so maybe thats the place to crab. p.s. they also put six fish in their boat on Saturday at the mouth of the Cowlitz. One steelhead, two chinook and three coho. And yes I did see the pictures, between the fish and that mess of crab I was drooling. They said not many other boats were catching, something about homemade lures and the secret slot???

WOW! Oregon must have one helluva daily limit on crab for someone to have 56? Up here in WA, we're only allowed 6 males, 6 to 6 1/4", depending where you are. images/icons/shocked.gif

The limit in Oregon is 12 per person. They had 6 people on board and came up a little short of a full limit.

Thanks friends. The news about T-Bay crabs gives me hope for Saturday. I can only take 24 since I will have only 2 on my boat.
The photo I put in 'Meet the Moderators' was taken about a year ago after fishing with RW for Salmon. This was also the day the 'Holiday' went onto the rocks on the south jetty. Where else? T-Bay, big crabs, as many as you could legally have.
I'm still puzzled about the bubble. Is it open before 9/15? As far as I know the area outside the terminal zone is open for spotty tail. What about from Kincheloe to the jaws, the bubble and the South Jetty?
BTW, the Ocean is closed to brine spider fishing, dang it!
How's the bottom fishing by 3 arch rocks?
So many questions, so little time.

Pilar:
We crabbed two days last week in Tillamook Bay and got 130 crabs. We tossed a fair number of soft ones back. Had kids and crabs running all over the boat. We used shad, salmon and turkey legs. No crabs in the Nehalem.

Pilar,
see post above under "Bouy 10 report". I do not think you would regret the Columbia. Only bad thing is tide times, but we caught them fairly well on outgoing, as well as incoming. Fish from above the church (Red roof) down to Chinook, trolling with the tide. Gotta troll fairly quickly to keep your Herring rolling, but you cover more water, and will find some fish.
Good Luck, wish I could join you out there, but I gotta support my football team.
GO DUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone with a slot open for Sat. I would like to troll some Rotary Salmon Killers one more time and then go to ifishstock.

I'll be at T-bay Sat. for crabs and hopefully some Salmon. Then over to Jen's for the feed with both if we're lucky. Tides are not good for fishing but ya gotta go when you can. images/icons/smile.gif
