Hi everyone, this is my first post . I found the site about a month ago and have been lurking and becoming educated. Anyhow, I have a 17' Harbercraft that weighs about 1300lbs with motor (not including gear and people) and need an anchor system for it. I am going to order the Miller Marine nest in the morning -but need an idea on a good all purpose sized anchor for my boat. I will be using my boat in the Puget Sound and on trips down to the Columbia River as well as other lakes and rivers. My buddy says a 25lb rocker anchor with about 4ft of chain. However, the sales person at one of the local marine shops suggested a 16lb rocker (EZ-Marine) with 6ft of chain. Any advise appreciated. Thanks.

both will work, personally I would go with the 25lb and chain. Miller Marine also make a great anchor you should check out.

I would, but I don't really want to pay the shipping on a 25lb anchor.
I'd go for 10 ft of chain with either one. That much chain has the affect of affecting your scope so that you won't need as much rope to anchor in the same depth of water. Also, it will dramatically help your anchor hold.

Contact me on a price for the whole thing. We have some shipping costs already built into my online prices so shipping the anchor is no big deal.

If you get the anchor from gundog, I come to the Tacoma area 2-3 days/weeks and would deliver it.

With enough chain you can anchor with a paperclip. Your back (or in my case your friend's backs) will appreciate a smaller anchor, and they take up less space.
Use nylon webbing (from REI or similar) on the chain and it won't scratch the boat.
