I am a Scoutmaster and a couple of weeks ago I took my Scout Troop out on a bottom fishing trip with Siggi-G out of Garabaldi and had a great time several boys and their dads had never done anything like that before.

For the second day I setup a tour of the coastguard station not only did we get to tour the station but we also got a ride on the big rescue boat.
(not sure what they call it a cutter?)

I cant explain how amazing that craft is with all it can do. But even more than that I can't even put into words the attitude of the Men (boys)that work everyday and risk their lives to keep that area safe for everyone.

I sure asked alot of questions about rough bar crossings and type and size of safe boats etc. It was a real education and eye opener for me.

I dont really know what to say about the whole experience but wanted to say something.

the boys are writing letters of thanks for the trip but I thought others might like hearing about this trip and what cool people there are out there willing to do the right things.

Not to mention the women of the Coast Guard, who also risk life and limb!

Thank you USCG for the lives you save!

There is a TV show which I believe was called "The World's Most Dangerous Port". I think it was on the Travel Channel (sorry about the CRS problem). Anyway, it is about the Columbia River bar and has a great segment on the Ilwaco C.G. images/icons/cool.gif

Bigstew,
My brother (18) Years in the CG just read your reply and said that he would take you up on the Beer.

He said that it is nice to have people that like the CG. For me the entire family is or was a CG and I take it for granted at times.
