Does anyone know the proper knot to use to tie mono backing to braided line? I know how to tie a blood knot, but the lines are so different in diameter im not sure if its ok to use the blood knot. Mono to 30 lb (6 lb diameter) braided? Any suggestions? thanks.

Tie two nail knots that slide together against each other. Easiest with a nail knot tool. Too complicated to explain. I found out from a guy that was putting line on my reel. Works great! Great for fishing jigs with mono leader but having the floating braided line.

Sean D.-

burnt-thumb is right ... I've filled hundreds of reels & used this technique for tying my own leaders to Power Pro for bobber fishing Fall chinook. It's even easier (and you'll get a perfect knot every time) if you learn to tie the nail knots with your hands rather than a knot-tyer.

'Sounds crazy but it's true ...

Hey, is that a song title> Hmph ... it oughta be ....

Afterthought ... if you igore the test of the high-tech braid and just get a diameter similar to the mono leader that you're using, it will make tying easier and a smoother line-leader transition. If need be, the leader will break so you won't end up anchoring your boat or losing line on an irretrievable snag.

Just ignore the fact that you're using 80 or 100 pound test for chinook & enjoy the better handling properties. It's also possible to actually unsnarl a backlash with the larger diameter line, whereas a backlash with six-pound diameter braid is a nightmare!

Thats a good point, i might just do that on my 6500 c3, but i think i would lose too much capacity on my 5500. Ill use the nail knot, thanks for the help.
