I have been trying to get my kicker started and finally did, My question is: is all that oil around the water line normal? Is my gas/oil mix to oily? What does it mean when you have that much gunk at the water line?

I think I am going to go out and clean my tank with some soap and get it clean and fill it back up and let the motor run for a bit and check it again. Just seems to be alot of oil in there.

Looks normal to me, my Mercury 2 stroke kicker makes my bucket look nasty as well, I think it is the two stroke oil thing.....probably why they went to 4 strokes.

well I cleaned out my bucket and ran the motor for about 10 minutes. Here are the results.

Now is this normal?

If this is normal, no wonder the fish are so dang slimy.

Normal and also the reason for 2 strokes being outlawed in certain places. They have done some real interesting studies on the Kenai River in Alaska do a google search for more info.

at the most you may be suffering from a loss of compression. That will cause a bit of extra gas/oil mix into your exhaust.
Give it a compression test and you may find if that is the case.

Normal, seafoam will clean the engine out, and loosen up the rings if they are sticking..

You probably trolled in cold water and the oil hit the cold water in the exhaust system and congealed. When you fired it up in a small tank the water warmed up and broke the congealed oil lose, so you saw some extra on the first start.

Mutliple your engine by the millions out there and you can see why 2 strokes are a problem.
