Guys & Gals, with the Clack about to open soon with a bounty of Coho - I have a question on Siwash hooks.
I have heard you should replace the treble hooks on Mag Worts and replace with a Siwash & Split Ring.
1. What Size Siwash & Split Ring?
2. Should put the Siwash on the belly or rear hook position?
Thanks,
Dave
I think you'll find a variety of opinions on whether to use treble or siwash hooks on your mag warts. However, I think everyone will agree that adding a split ring or even some bead chain or a swivel is critical to preventing the fish from getting too much leverage on your plug.

First off, you might use a regular wart, not a mag. Either way here is one approach --- remove both hooks and the split ring from the rear eye. To the front eye add a #7 swivel then a Luhr Jensen oval (extended) split ring and a #2 VMC or other quality treble. Another way to go is to use a bead chain instead of the regular swivel. The idea is to get your hook free to pivot without hitting the plug. Another benefit is that your plug will run slightly deeper. One year we kept track and landed 83 straight steelhead and salmon with this rig once they were on for one run.
